To the people who think I am calling them idiots for defending Iran. Let me explain why I mentioned that.

1. Reddit literally upvotes articles where they quote Iranian government talking points and propaganda

2. What's Okay(We should not attack Iran which I and most of the sane people in DC agree with(It's China, and Russia which are the main foes of the US, not Iran) )

3. What's not Okay, requoting Iranian propaganda, and upvoting an article where Iran calls Trump names.

Again if you manufacturing consent(Chomsky) by calling Iran bad, you are doing just as worst by calling Iran good, or saying they should replace the Saudis as the regional major power(Cough Rationalwiki) as you are creating consent with Iran wrongdoing.

Let's keep it real, they are both bad(SA, and Iran)

I am sick of progressives picking which autocratic country to hate, and which not to hate. You should be against all of them as they are the reason for allot of dissenters in prison, and people dying for expressing their rights.

By the way, I don't like Trump either, but if North Korea"s Kim calls Trump a dotard I don't manufacture consent for NK by upvoting an article on Reddit.

Is anyone actually defending Iran though? The US does bad things. Saudi Arabia does bad things. Iran does bad things. The US making a bad situation much worse doesn't mean that Iran is a good guy here by default.

There have literally been Reddit articles where they mention Iran hanging LBTQ, and the top comment was the Iranian people are nice.

Edit: Even when the main subject is Iran, people will look for red herrings.

While I too have met plenty of nice Iranians, I wouldn't think that relevant to the conversation at hand, though could the up voting be due to Iran's online "troll army" rather than people genuinely trying to change the subject?

But then again the "kardashians" are a thing because many people are not too bright to begin with.

On one of the default subreddits that hits the front page or somewhere like r/iran or whatever? Source it.

edit:
Let's suppose you're entire correct though. Are you really saying that something along those same lines doesn't appear whenever an awful news story about the US comes out? Hell, the President of the United States made the same type of equivocation regarding Nazis marching in a US city and murdering someone.

If by "global circumstance" you mean "the vested financial interest of the financial, energy, and defense sectors", you'd be closer to the truth. The US doesn't keep stirring up shit in lesser-developed countries around the world of strategic economic importance, thereby guaranteeing profitability in nation-building and arms trading, just because we goddamn feel like it.
The USA is the world's supreme power, but maintenance of that power - as can be seen in all other major powers in history - relies to some extent on military force. That trade (much more than arms, of course) and influence benefits the USA, and is in large part what its power rests on.

One might consider, for instance, whether China would be so temperate about its Pacific Rim neighbours without the USA implicitly or explicitly backing them up militarily. And if China took them or otherwise coerced them into its sphere of influence, then the disadvantage to the USA is absolutely plain. US military power is thus very much a desire of its government even without pressure from the corporate sector.

Maybe. China String of Pearls is worrisome. But India's counter String of Pearls, connecting with Japan is also worrisome, due to India's nuclear capability. I dont know why we arent worried by them, just as much as China. I wouldn't say China wouldn't be relying on North Korea to have their back if they got to fighting nuclear. Pakistan is a very hot and cold partner
