The Hunt, a Universal movie that was supposed to be released September 27th, has had it's release date cancelled.

The studio's statement:

?While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film ? We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.?
The synopsis for the movie:

?In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a bunch of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites? master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin), knows The Hunters? game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar? winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.?
Apparently, Universal was pressured to cancel the film's release after Donald Trump and Fox & Friends blamed violent movies and video games for mass shootings, citing The Hunt in particular.

As always in these cases, the wrong thing gets blamed or gets more blame than it deserves.

Who is this movie even for? Is it meant to be for left-wingers who hate Trump supporters or right-wingers who hate 'lefty elitists'?

The latter, I imagine.

Shouldn't this thread be merged with the other one about this that was made first?
As the person who created the other thread... I'm just little disappointed that people haven't found the irony in Trump calling himself an Elite after denigrating them just as delicious as I do

I believe the associated tweet called Leftist the real racists and destroying the country. If you've heard of the shenanigans in rural Washington etc, you can definitely believe this is how they see Lefties.

Hasn't this film already been made with Jean-Claude Van Damme or someone like that? Oh yeah, Hard Target.

Eh, they already made it, they'll probably release it sometime later when Trump has lost interest in attacking videogames and movies and is calling for the murder of brown people and/or Democrats again.

IIRC, some rubbish action movie about terrorists knocking down high-rises (can remember which one) got into some hot water cause 9/11 came out just before it was scheduled to be released, they just delayed it a bit.

Not sure if it's the one you're thinking of, but the awful Schwarzenegger vehicle The Last Action Hero got into a bit of an advertising/PR mess when they planned to run a giant balloon featuring the main character holding a fistful of dynamite sticks in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade shortly after the first WTC bombing.

There was some weird shit with movies immediately post 9/11. Spider-Man has it?s trailer recut, there was a petition to rename The Two Towers (although that could have been someone taking the piss). More recently that shitful Ninja Turtles movie a few years back copped a bit of flack for an Australian poster showing them jumping out of an exploding building with the release date, 9/11, on it. Of course in Aus, that date would be 9th November but it caused a small stir.

I wish they would cancel more crappy movies. 99% of movies released these days are garbage. I seriously have a hard time even getting through most of the movies made in the last decade without shutting them off after a short period due to just how bad they are. There are exceptions of course, but the sheer amount of money wasted making awful movies is absurd at this point.

I believe that movie was Collateral Damage.

Its funny how at the time, just because it had it's release delayed because of the attacks, everyone just went ahead and assumed it was a shit film. Looks like that is happening all over again with the Hunt.

That's just survivors bais. There have been plenty of crappy movies since the 70s. We just dont remember them. They had whole studio dedicated to making them (eg. Full Moon.)

When 99% of movies made these days are shit films, it is easy to assume this is another one. Pretty much confirmed when reading the story line and viewing what little we have seen about it.

This is so stupid when they do stuff like this, everybody with a brain knows they were making this movie long before this couple of shootings. It's not like they just decided to cash in on the issue of a shooting and film a movie in a few days.

Well if you're of the opinion that 99% of films are shit, then I guess it's a foregone conclusion you'll think the next movie to arrive will also be shit anyway.

A philosophy that is liberally applied to almost all contemporary political issues affecting us onward.
