It seems like videogames are definitely trending this way, at least in singleplayer.
From Vanquish's 5-hour-minimum campaign, to the Call of Duties and Medal of Honors, it seems like games, especially FPS's, are turning into little interactive movies.

So my question: What if someone took this to its logical conclusion and made a very short (1.5 to 2.5 hours) game with little or no multiplayer aside from possibly co-op, and then sold it for the price of a movie ticket or a DVD? Putting aside the concept of convincing publishers to sell something like this, would you the consumer buy it?
(Disclaimer: I'm not workin' for anyone here)
(Second disclaimer: Please forgive a potential repost. I did a search which turned up nothing, but for all I know I didn't use the right search terms)

Personally, for $10 I might, but indie games have somewhat spoiled me - I tend to expect more from a $10-$20 game than from a $60 game, in every aspect but graphics and polish, nowadays.

Edit: My poll is broke.

I'm fine with short games, it's short games with no replay value that I hate.

Hell, I've beaten Vanquish 4 times this week.

That said, games used to always be short. I beat Kirby games in less than 2 hours. But people used to REPLAY them. I don't know what happened. These days, no one seems to ever replay most games.

Sure, why not? If it's well polished and has good gameplay, I'd pay a paltry $10 for that amount of entertainment. If it's good enough, it might have replay value anyway. It only takes about 3 hours to beat Portal, but I still play it constantly.

Incidentally, as of my vote the poll is exactly 50/50. Interesting. Oh wait, not a whole lot of people have voted. Well we'll see how it turns out.

Simply put, I want great games and I want value for my money.

If someone makes a great game that only takes a couple of hours to play (as many have both in the past and more recently) then awesome, but don't expect me to pay a lot for it. For $60 there are a number of titles that are also great but that provide 20, 30, etc. hours of play so, sorry, but unless your 2 hour game in an absolute masterpiece of perfection then the value just isn't there for me.
