I am not talking about the 3 red rings of death(I had one 2 years ago).My console is on its side (dosen`t matter which way. I put a game in the disk drive then up to 30 minutes latter 2 red lights light up (the right side) and the screan gose back. This happened Sunday night and I sent Microsoft an email and they had replied back today. They said that it was too hot (Nothing is within 3 feet of my xbox). I put the cooling fan back on my Xbox and all that it did was that it made it take an extra 5-10 minutes before it will "crash" again and I meet the 2 red lights again. Do you have any Idea what it is? have you had it? what was wrong with it?

(I used the search bar and if it is on the wrong section plese move it for me)

If they say it's too hot, then it's propably too hot. Bad fan, bad transformer on your Xbox, severely corroded connections, fan bearings are bust, bad airflow inside the casing from loose wiring, motherboard almost short-circuiting, etc that leads either to unexpected heat generation or faulty heat dissipation. Were this a computer, it would be easily solved by adding an extra fan or two or replacing the main CPU heatsink with watercooling, but since we are talking of a console...

I'm thinking a certified mechanic needs to look it trough. Bring it to your closest shop or ship it to Microsoft. If your Xbox is in open space indoors, in an area where the temperature is the same as elsewhere in the house, and yet it runs too hot...A component or components are about to go bust or have already. More likely the former, since it still runs if only for a short time.

Hope you have warranty.

And for next time, remember to GIS.

My xbox overheated a couple of times.
Found out that it doesn't like being on a carpet...
Works fine now I moved it to a cold, hard surface.

Buggered heatsink? If you're doing everything right to keep it breathing, then the cooling system is at fault.
