I take portal 2 out of the race automatically.

So its either skyrim, ME3, and maybe diablo if it comes out this year.

Portal 2 is running strong with a chain of positive reviews.

Many people are mentioning Skyrim; I warn you all with a riddle: What did Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas have in common that the latter suffered worst?

personally it may end up as a tie between arkahm city, portal 2, battlefield 3, and guild wars 2.....but i think portal 2 leading on the final stretch.

Far too early to tell, but Portal 2 is an excellent candidate.

One thing I can say for certain however is that Dragon Age 2 shouldn't even be considered for game of the year.

Well, GoTY nominations tend to be bought not earned so it's hard to say.

2011 was supposed to be a huge year for Blockbuster games, and EA in paticular has been flooding the market. It hasn't turned out that way though, and truthfully a lot of these blockbusters seem to be fizzling down to pretty run of the mill successes, if that (sales aside). "Dragon Age 2" was badly received, and despite the fanboyism I honestly do not think that "Portal 2" has had rating difficulties simply due to Day1 DLC, largely because even when it's inspire anger it hasn't lead to that kind of reaction.

Portal didn't have day 1 dlc; it had a day 1 hat shop. The only reason the score is below a 9 on metacritic is because /v/ bombed the score on day one.

Just setting the record straight.

OT: I imagine Portal 2 will be GOTY. It's probably going to be mine, anyway.

How could you leave out Skyrim or LA Noire. Although I agree Portal 2 is probably really good (i haven't played yet) I also heard a lot of people drooling over Dues Ex.

In all honesty? None of that shit you put up there could nearly be considered GOTY material for people with half a brain.

Sadly the half-a-brainers also chose RDR regardless of the bugs that still happen, so I digress.

And to the guy who was told GTAIV was better than Mirrors Edge? If they make a Mirrors Edge sequel it would already be my GOTY just from it being my absolute favorite from the year it was released ALONE.

Ok, I really fail to see why you put Uncharted 3 and DA2 on the list. You went with some games that are going to come out, but you didn't put Skyrim or Duke Nukem on the list?

Portal 2 is the best I've played this year so far (meaning it's better than Crysis 2). I'm pretty sure Brink will end up being my goty, but Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, and Arkham City also have good chances.

Sorry, what? we're four months in, theres time for a game to get announced & released before the year ends, at the moment I think p0rtal 2 but for all I know they'll suddenly say, "actually we've had Beyond Good And Evil 2 done this whole time, and anyone who buys it will have all their wildest dreams granted.

For me? So far Minecraft is the only candidate. Hopefully ME3 will be good enough of a game to change my opinion.



As for the actual GOTY, probably Portal 2 seeing how overhyped that game is, even moreso than Minecraft.

A little early to tell. So far it's Portal 2. Duke Nukem Forever, Mass Effect 3, or Deus Ex: Human Revolution may or may not change that.

As much as I enjoyed Portal 2, it shouldn't win GOTY. It was too damn easy.

LA Noire is the easy shoe-in for me, if it lives up to it's promise.

If not than Deus Ex: Human Revolution will probably be my pick.
