Poll: 2012 Threads: The end?

Okay over the past few days I have seen at least 10 different 2012 threads. I can see why people always say "Use the search bar", ironically I did not use the search bar for this thread. 2012 posts are annoying and if you care that much about it just post on one of the already hundreds of threads about it.

What are your thoughts on 2012 theads? Will they be the end of the world? Did the Mayans think ahead and make the calendar end just to annoy level headed people? Fourth question that makes my post have more heavy an effect?

I say who cares? If it's going to happen, it'll happen. If I'm going to bet one way or the other, I'll bet the world won't end; if the world does end I won't live long enough to pay up anyway

I've got a new theory. Everyone who envisions some apocalypse happening in 2012 will have that apocalypse befall them and only them.

Do you think they are being added to a government "To be purged" list or something?

The Mayan calender didn't predict the 'end of time' in 2012 any more than our calender predicts the end of time every damn year.

Likelihood is they simply didn't plan any further than the 13th b'ak'tun, and it either rolled around to the start or there would have been (or even were, and they just didn't survive) even greater iterations for it to go through.

We WILL die in 2012 though, don't get me wrong. Mulder is off the X Files and the colonization will go ahead as planned.

All 2012 means is the end of an era, or cycle whatever you want to call it. Doesn't mean the end of life just means they'd need to make a new calender for the next era. Just like we need new calenders every year so we don't think the first day of may is a thursday like it was last year.

The threads dont bother me though, i'll read it... see if theres something interesting... usually isn't and then i move on to the next thread.

I think quite clearly that forum threads about 2012 are the harbinger of the 2012 apocalypse. The more people dicuss is online, the more the idea takes shape in our collective consciousness, and by the time the fateful year approaches the combined thoughts processes of all humanity chanelled through the internet will become a raging behemoth capable of reaching from the screen to pluck away our souls. Clearly, we have wrought our own destruction with our foolishness, and only be ending all discussion of 2012 can we hope to avert the future we have created.

Either that or they're relaly bloody annoying.

I just feel that if you consistently worry about something it's more likely to happen. People who obsess about it will likely die simply because they were trying to prepare/prevent or escape it to begin with.

Precisely, or they'll just waist a huge enough of money, say, for bunkers or vaults (like Fallout).
