If you're a pc gamer already, go for a PS3. A lot of the 360 exclusives end up going to pc anyway.
Oh and on the subject of RDR. The two versions really aren't that different. I've played and completed both, 360 and ps3 versions, and the only differences that the PS3 version had was the graphics were very slightly worse. Nothing that any normal player would notice, though. Besides there is cases where the PS3 has the superior console version as well, so I wouldn't base the choice off that.
Oh and the original 60gb chunky ps3 in europe has actually got backwards compat. Might be difficult finding one though. Personally I've got a ps3 slim along with a ps2 slim to go with it(I already had the ps2 slim).
