So with the recent announcement [http://epicbattleaxe.com/nintendo-announces-3ds-launch-date/] of the price tag of the 3DS (300$), and with the known price tag of the Open Pandora [http://epicbattleaxe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1266] (330EUR), I'm asking you this simple question:
Which is win?

My take is this:
The 3DS will waste most of its processing power generating the 3D image and the games will not be cheap for a while. On top of that it can't emulate older games without modifying it. And even if you do, it doesn't have enough power to play Quake 3 unlike Open Pandora (not that I'm going to play Quake 3. Just saying) Add a game or two for the 3DS and it's already more expensive than Pandora.
Open Pandora is.. well, OPEN. It has two analogue sticks and it's a portable Netbook. Plus it has more than enough processing power to generate 3D images. Though you'll need glasses, UNLESS 3D head tracking technology [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SDGG9HhbgQ] gets incorporated via a USB cam and a patch. On top of all that there's the battery... 10 hours on full use.
So, imo, Open Pandora wins!!!
And at all those who will argue that Open Pandora is a Pirate's Dream all I'm saying is this:
Piracy is when you reproduce or download something for commercial and NOT personal use. Not when you emulate it or downloading the preferable format. If you want to be legit then go buy the game you like and then download the appropriate format for the Emulator. Just remember it's for your own use only.

The 3DS will kick this things ass. It's freaking Nintendo we're talking about and how many kids are going to want their mommy and daddy to get them something because it can play old games when the 3DS will have the new Pokemon games and such? Sure, the Pandora might win out over hardcore, gotta have the top of the line specs type gamers but when it comes to sheer volume of people not in that group, Nintendo wins hands down. Remember, the PSP was much more powerful than the DS and look at how it fares against the DS.

The PSP doesn't have any games... Pandora already has more games than all the handhelds combined, PLUS the games of the DS, DSi, PSP. And before you say "I ain't gonna play old games", I'm asking you this:
What was the biggest announcement @ TGS 2010?
If your answer is The ICO/SotC dandle, then your point isn't all that valid.

Well the 3DS will obviously do better business... they're only planning an initial run of 7k for Pandora? Nintendo will probably sell as many 3DS units on its first day.

Now on technical merits alone... The Pandora looks like a handy versatile device but the idea of glasses-less 3D just makes me so enamored!

3DS obviously. At "Pandora has more games than all the handhelds combined", please, it has more pirated games than all of the handhelds combined. Developers will not develop for a platform that allows piracy so easily. Nintendo lost 3rd party support following the availability of DS carts and the Wii Homebrew channel because they allow piracy.

Without developer support Open Pandora will die. Open pandora can play the original Metal Gear Solid for PSOne? 3DS can play Metal Gear Solid 3D which will look better than the Playstation 2 Metal Gear games.

If you mean win as in sales, then 3DS. Simple. The 3DS is building on the DS juggernaut which in itself has been the most successful console marketing campaign ever. Pandora will never attract anyone who isnt at least mildly tech savvy as its main draw is emulation which in its simplest form will never be as simple as buying a game from a shop and putting it in the console. The 3DS is continuing from a console that has already brought in people from far outside the usual sphere of gamers. Even if its half as successful as the DS was, the 3DS will demolish the Pandora, which at best I think will become an enthusiast's plaything appealing to a small niche audience.

I've never even heard of the Pandora. How exactly does it have more games than any other hand-held combined?

Its nintendo, there's still people who say "Oh Jimmy is playing on his nintendo" so of course the 3DS is going to win.

Though with a 300 dollar price tag I'm not so sure just how far they're going to get.

First: "Which is win"? Yikes, nice grammar.

The 3DS will win. Even some of the more skeptical people about 3D technology are excited about the console. Nintendo handhelds have crushed their opposition and have generally been regarded as having quality tech and quality games. And the Nintendo brand alone will bring sales and confidence unparalleled in handheld gaming.

I never consider a console's ability for homebrew when I decide to buy it or not becuase I never use a console for homebrew.

Ultimately, Pandora is basically what PC's already can do with ROMs and emulators without the benefit of exclusive software. The 3DS however has exclusive software in spades, and *may* get a homebrew community of all your pirating needs.

Seeing as I never heard of the Pandora before now, and since that layout looks terribly uncomfortable, 3DS. Besides, what exclusives does it have? What features besides a QWERTY keyboard?

Besides, you're basing power consumption here based on pure speculation, at least for the 3DS. Pandora's probably not going to have a ten-hour battery life running some of the heavier console emulators, like the PS2 one.

The pandora has no exclusives, all it has are illegal roms and emulators
Emulators are entierly legal at the moment, if you use your own commercial bios. Roms/ISOS are illegal unless deleted in the span of 24/h for backup purposes all fine print crap.

As for the thing meh, glorified laptop really wont touch a microfraction of the DSI and who the hell wants to spend all day setting up emulators and linux to get games running.

I kinda figured as much, seeing as I'm assuming that it's either fairly new or completely off the radar. Still seeing it as being a massive flop either way.

And I know you probably didn't mean this, but the emulators themselves aren't illegal. You're just leaving that sentence open to different inferences writing the adjective before the compound object, though.
