Hiding from a bad guy is covered by the call and hang up proceedure. This is why the police tend to repspond to those calls a little bit faster, incase there is something drastic going on and the person cant talk. This also covers your choking scenerio.

Ok a lot of people have been saying stuff like this. But honestly I don't know one person that actually texts like this. You guys have a point that there might be some crank texts but when you call in and say something stupid they still come over to your house or wherever you are and you get in trouble.

This is being done over here in england somwhere but I don't know if it's for an emergency or just non-emergency txts

How is that working out? Do people crank text or is it actually helpful in some serious situations where you can't dial or it's more convenient to text.

You wouldn't just text in and say "I need help" you would probably have to state the situation and tell them where you are.

But that would take forever. Txting is a lot slower than talking. You might as well just dial 911.

Yes I understand now that choking isn't the best example, and would be better to just call 911. But things like if for some strange reason that probably would be your fault and someone is hunting you down to kill you texting the police saying oh I'm here and someone has a gun so be careful.

Whispering is actually quieter than the clicking sound texting makes.

Whispering is pretty hard to understand clearly, and a lot of phones aren't all that loud clicking so the clicking would be about as loud as whispering

We must have a big difference in friends then. I text around 7-9 people regularly and every single one of them texts legibly.

I think it would be helpful if 911 (Police) had an ability so you could text them instead of calling in. For example what if you were choking and couldn't talk? Or if someone broke into your house and you don't want to give up your location?

1. There are ways to help yourself if you're choking. And if you don't know these procedures, you're a dumbass because everyone should know it.
2. If a person BROKE INTO YOUR HOUSE, how would it be bad to give up your location? They already know where you are! Unless you mean your location within the house, in which case you could hide in a locked room, or whisper, or maybe even fend off the criminal yourself (Y'know, self defense and whatnot.).

In conclusion, 911 texting is a very stupid and impractical idea.
