I'm going to vote yes to the IDEA, even though I will probably not link my own dA account if it is implemented. (The reason being I don't really draw any more.)

I personally wouldn't use it, there isn't a drop of artistic ability in my body, but I see why some people would like their artwork seen. So I think it would be a good idea to be able to display one or two items from your gallery on your profile page.

I know I have my deviant art url somewhere in my profile already but I'd like it to be a link like facebook honestly. I don't think that they should put up the artwork since I know there are young'ns on the 'scapist and some people do draw/photograph some very mature themed things (and yes I know filters and all, hell half my stuff is mature by definition strictly on themes though mine is photography and occasional writings and the writings are more what get the mature filter any way)

Lauren Faust has a deviant art account. And so do a lot of professional artist. But a lot of them also have their own personal website. Deviant art is a good way to make connections with lots of budding artist and is a fairly quick way to find and keep track of their activities and projects. A personal website is something that would suit for when you need to present yourself to some serious individuals who want to see you're portfolio and nothing else. Real websites cost money though so yeah. I wouldn't be so quick to bump deviant art like that.
You say that like $10 a month is too expensive.

Yes. Well not ten dollars alone. But having monthly payments can be a hassle. We all know the bills and other things we have to pay monthly or bi weekly. Then there's those unexpected expenses that happen from time to time. And then there's the fact that one probably has a couple of subscriptions to stuff already like magazine subscriptions or subscriptions to certain websites. Also while developing a website itself can be fairly cheap it can become rather costly depending on what your doing on the website and what web services you went for. Not to mention web design and things like that. Personally. Money is tight these days so I'm not trying to spend any money on something I can get for free.

Yes; cause despite what people say DA is not all porn and seething pusbubbles... maybe 90%.

Anyway, I use it; and the more people exposed to my artwork [http://adamrbi.deviantart.com/] the better network I'll build.

Honestly I'm kind of torn on this. It would be nice to have more people look at my artwork on deviantart... but I honestly don't know how necessary this is...

I'm going to not comment on the "Real artists are/do X" thing because the fact that I'm the one in a grad program for fine art seems to convince people that I don't know anything about the matter whatsoever.
*eyetwitch*

That being said, no, I will never use it, because I loathe Deviantart.

And with the place for external links already in the profile, I'm not big on the idea unless the Escapist gets financial compensation.
Then its an unobtrusive way to help the 'Scapist.

I approve of this idea.
Personally I could would love some more advice and criticism of my 'work'.
Something you're unlikely to get on DeviantArt, where people have a tendency only to compliment, not critique. There are other (better) places to find critical analysis of your own work.
Such as where?

Try starting a sketchbook on ConceptArt.org, try starting a CGHub, CGSociety or really any of the participating sites from the Dominance War competition. Starting a CA.org sketchbook is 100% the best way out of those to get real critiques from both peers and professionals.

I have the beginnings of a sketchbook.
I presume you mean the forums on ConceptArt.org.
As for the others they are far above and beyond anything I'm doing at the moment. I've not really got access to 3D modellers nor the experience...yet.
Actually CGHub looks good...

Thanks! If you're on there just look for the guy that sucks. That's me. :p

You can find me on CA.org very easily. I'm an administrator. In particular I'm the admin that runs creature of the week: Si_Swe. Hope things go well for you.

Quick question.
I've only drawn MLP fan art (I'm so professional :p) so...wouldn't that be too much, like, crud for CA?

Well, it'd be a lie to say there aren't bronies on the site, but you may get nailed in crits for only doing fan art.

Extremely true. I've seen absolutely terrible(granted I can't draw but seriously) drawings and seen comments of people complimenting it. Can't tell if they really mean it or just hiding the truth.

OT: There's really no purpose for it. At least that's how I feel. You already have the option to add an outside link to your profile as mentioned by Marter. So, no. I pick no.

Well...when I say fan art I mean taking a still from the show and drawing that. Sans background.
...
Don't look at me like that! I only just started!!

DeviantArt actually has a ton of fanart based on games, which could really be a cool source to pull images off of when making a post in gamer Threads. But, aside from that some people really like their accounts to be checked out, and not everyone draws art. There are poets and writers too who go deep into gaming and criticizing it while loving it.
Sure, you may think The Escapist isn't really art related but Youtube isn't hardly about gaming ether. Facebook may go on everything, but Facebook's purpose was to chat with friend's and share personal information with each other (those you trust of course.) So, why not share your artwork or browse game fanart to add with your posts every now and then? There are many uses and though I can see your point, there's actually no harm in adding a link since it's optional anyhow.
Well I'm hesitant to allowing new features to come in because every new feature means another chance of glitches and frustrations happening, even to those who don't want it. And if we went ahead with every idea just because "hey it's optional" then, yeah. BUT that's not really a very big problem, is it? No.

Posting video game fan art from the site? Okay, that sounds pretty useful. I mean we can already do that, simply by getting the image URL and putting in the right HTML, but whatever.

No, Deviantart is a terrible site full of terrible art that doesn't need to be linked here.
