Hey, I was just thinking it would be really cool if they made a game based on the film "Gladiator" (or else "Braveheart"). Think about it. The early levels could be Marcus as a general in Bavaria, as a RTS section. Later, it would be a sandbox of Ancient Rome with the main missions being mortal combat in the Colloseum. And you'd already have Oscar-winning dialogue in the cut-scenes. I think it could be really fun. So, any thoughts?

I would buy it. Thought I wouldn't like that it's movie-based. I'd rather have a whole new original story (like one where the main character dies). The idea is good though, I just want a game based on gladiators and combat, though I wouldn't mind some free-roam.

I would buy a game just set in a Gladiator arena using the fighting system used in Zeno Clash.

That would be tasty.

I absolutely LOVED the movie, and as long as they nail the combat, it would be a ridiculously fun game. I don't mind if they follow the movie's story, as long as it doesn't interfere with the bloodshed too much. It would be really fun multiplayer too.

I don't know, combining gaming genres might blow peoples minds too much to work with that. :p
But I'd try it for shits and giggles, sure.

yeah but that games terrible.

If they made a new one, with proper graphics and that didn't work off american dollars then I reckon it would be sweet. I for one am all for it.

It would be a hard game to get right, couldn't be a hack and slash like Dynasty Warriors, but they couldn't underwhelm the characters abilities and make it to hard to kill anything.

Perhaps a game with multiple short stories, a few expeditions with you before slavery and then Gladiatorismness, yeah I wrote that, perhaps using a similar style to Oblivion's arena. Where one on one can be very hard and one on three is still winnable but very difficult. When you win a certain number of matches and get a high enough reputation, get more for gory kills, you hit the Colosseum in Rome, win matches in there, until you unlock another character then you can start all over, but his final boss is the guy you just played as with the stats and stuff you obtained.

Wow, more thought there than when I started writing!

It wasn't that good, but it wasn't horrible.

I dunno, I beat it. Granted it only took a few hours, but still, it was an interesting concept. Managing your gladiator's equipment, gear, etc, using tactics for the 8-10 that you ended up finishing with.

Dealing with lions was pretty cool.

Play 'Shadows of Rome' by Capcom. It might fill the void. You feel like a proper gladiator. I thought it was gonna suck, too. Only bad thing was there were two playable characters, one who was a gladiator, and the second who's sections of the game were entirely exercises in hiding behind crates. You knew however, that at the end of those bits was....Ah! The arena combat! If you weren't lopping off limbs mid-combo, ending with a mighty decap/cut clean in half finish, you were holding aforementioned heads and appendages aloft for the crowd so they'd chuck you health and massive sharp objects. If there was a game like that you could play over xbox live, I for one would play it like a *****. And there were chariot races that handled like RoadRash!

yeah true, perhaps not terrible. But I only played for a short time.

Still, A mix of RPG and RTS, if done correctly, would be pretty awesome. Perhaps rising from Gladiator to general and slowing moving from RPG as a single gladiator through the rankings, then to freedom, then to a single man part of a unit on the battlefield then incorporating more and more RTS as you progress through the ranks in the army.

And its all historically possible if you begin as a Roman Citizen.

I dunno, a game which would consist one RTS level, followed by running from A to B just so you can do Oblivion's Arena-style fights doesn't seem like such a great game.
I just don't see how it would be all that entertaining, but I'm open for the possibility that it might work.

Indeed that would, I like that system. The closest I've seen is Gladiator [http://uk.wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14350710/gladiator-ad/videos/gladiator_trl_extremeviolence_52609.html]A. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.115433]D [http://uk.wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14350710/gladiator-ad/videos/gladiwii_061209_2.html]. for the Wii, but it's not first person, it's second-ish, but impressions (including my own) are mixed. Looks pretty good visually though at least.

Age of Chivalry has arena segments, but not a Gladiator game, medieval. Your post has led me to realise the lack of first person Gladiator love. I feel betrayed.
