Jesus. LordNoIWillNotGrowABrainEverEverEverEverIPromise, do you want me to go back and mash together the highlights of that terrible, terrible exchange I had with you? I swear I'll do it. If it means opening your eyes to your absolute ridiculousness, I'll do it.

But I have to ask you one question real quick... Are you trolling? Are you a REAL person?
No I am not trolling. But you certainly seem to be now given the rate of your flames and how quickly you turn to anger when someone challenges your elitist views.
Don't be silly LordNeverGonnaGiveYouUpNeverGonnaLetYouDownExceptEveryTimeITypeOnMyKeyboard, you just ruined all chances of me having the capability to respect you as a fellow peer or even a human being with feelings at this point. You could be redeemed, but you're not doing it right at the moment.

So anyways, I assume that means, "Yes, I want you to go back and take exact quotes to show me the error of my ways"?

You don't need to point out sarcasm to me, LordNowI'mProjectingMyMistakesOnToOtherPeopleElOhElOhElOhEl. I'm not you, I can catch sarcasm when I see it.

I'll prove plenty. It's going to take a lot of work, though, so when it's all said and done, the only two words I want to see from you are, "I'm sorry".

Deal?
Deal.

So here are some highlights from my first post.

Naota_391 said:
PUT YOUR EYES HERE FIRST:
It's been a while since I've been on a video game forum board... and it's been kind of exciting... it's also brought me a great deal of frustration because it's reminded me of some issues that are endless in the gaming community. I'm hoping that if I name them here, I won't feel compelled to bring them up everywhere else.

I guess I could tolerate your feedback as well./sarcasm

1. NOT ALL VIDEO GAME STORIES SUCK

A video game story shouldn't have to absolutely blow minds to be GOOD. Stop rating stories on a spectrum of "AMAZING" or "ABSOLUTE SHIT".

Also, a game's story doesn't suck because the game play is inconsistent with the game's fiction.

Be aware of what you're saying in comparison to everyone else. If your reason for saying a game's story is bad is, "I had to sit in a room and listen to people talk, ugggghhhh, blah blah blah," reconsider the possibility that it's not so much the game's fault, it's yours. It's not that the game is bad, it's just that it's not the game for you. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad.

2. EVERY GAME IS BASED ON THE IDEA OF DOING SOMETHING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND MAKING IT FUN
If you have a problem with a game, be specific. If you're going to say a game is shit, be specific. Please. Don't blame the genre it's in. If that's what you're bitching about, then that just means that genre isn't for you. Again, we arrive at the point: Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. You can call a game out, just make sure you've actually got something to call it out on.

3. UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING WHEN YOU SAY WORDS LIKE "MECHANICS", "LEVEL DESIGN", "PACING", ETC.

These can be the vaguest terms ever when talking about a specific game. Ever get frustrated about how people seem to have an unreasonable hatred or love for a certain game, and you can't help but feel that this vague opinion has just become contagious and so everyone shares it?

Want to know how to avoid it? Do this:
A) Think about why you feel the way you do about a game.
B) When you state your view, are you passing judgement on a game or just saying how you feel you and the game go together? (I.E. "This game is bad/great" and "This game is/isn't for me")
C) What do your statements mean?

If you're going to complain about mechanics, be specific. You can't just make a general statement like that and expect that it'll float. Understand what these words mean. Like level design. "The level design in that game is just really weak." Okay, how? What many consider to be good level design is when a game funnels a person towards their goal without making the person feel like "Oh hay I'm walking through corridors" even if that's actually what they're doing. Does the place feel like an actual place in that world, or does it feel super artificial? Things like this. Think about them.

Note: There are more things, but I'm spent for the moment. Give me your thoughts, and if you have a particular issue of your own, bring it up and I'll probably add it on here.
Here are some highlights from your response.

LordNue said:
OP you're a terrible poster and care too much about what other people think. There are a lot of problems in the "Gaming Community" And people having opinions on video games that aren't the exact same as yours are not one of them. Bugger off if you're going to just sit there and whine about how people don't like games and if they don't think every game is great they're objectively wrong.
Let's look at this first bit.... I mean, come on. What? My entire first post was constructive criticism. It was completely based around the idea of, "If you have an issue with a game, fine. Just be specific when you complain about games." If people do that, more people will be able to have conversations, even IF they disagree, because everyone can see where everyone is coming from. And then you go off and call me a terrible poster and somehow take away from all of it that I don't want people hating games I like. Even when I said nothing at all about certain games I liked, and just gave advice on how to explain WHY you are giving ANY game shit.

Let's move to my response, now.

Naota_391 said:
Before I call you a name, I'm going to give you a chance to actually go back and read. I'll give you the opportunity to understand that the core purpose of making this thread was to make people understand that complaining is fine, but that if you're going to complain and would like to be taken seriously, then you need to have a better idea about the things you do and don't like. You need to better articulate your thoughts, and these are the ways that people fail to do that on a daily basis that immediately came to mind at the time.
Your response.

LordNue said:
"If you have an opinion on this topic I'll flame you" Yup, sounds like you don't want people to have an opinion you don't agree with alright... that really sounds like what you're actually getting at here. Not everyone who complains about something in a game wants to be taken seriously like a fucking scholar or master of game design.
Since when did a bunch of nerds whining about things they didn't like over the internet have to be a super serious amazingly official process anyway? Especially on this site.
Seriously, these are shortened quotes, but I haven't changed any of the words. The bold sections speak for themselves. Do you want me to keep going? It just gets worse.

I can't even finish reading the things you type at this point. I don't understand how you're that dumb. I even bolded it for you. Jesus Christ.

Leave the thread, please. You can tell yourself you're right. Shit, I'll even say it to you. You win. Here's a gold medal. But go. Every moment talking to you has made me feel like I'm taking bits of my life and throwing them down the garbage disposal.

If I'm such an elitist, it must feel awful for you to be in my presence and in my thread. No doubt you feel victorious and pumped up, so take that feeling else where and don't come back. I don't want to waste even one more post or quote arguing with you. Not here, at least.

Have an enlightening day.

Elitism is my beef with the gaming community, and they're only a small portion of the community to be fair
Elitism? Do you mean with in certain games, i.e. joinning a multiplayer game and finding that the majority of the community has become very smug in their skills and created a high barrier to entry? Or more like "hard core" gamers that look down upon anyone who doesn't game as hard or as much as they do?
More of the "I'm a gamer, I'm better than you" sort of things.

OT: I hate people who rant on games with no examples to back themselves up and troll as fast as Youtube commenters. I.E.(And I've just heard this today) "Blah quickscope blah MW2 blah Intervention blah" followed by: "Halo: Reach sucks!" I hate my school. Or at least the MW2 "gamers" at my school. And pretty much all of them are MW2 "gamers".

Aw, shit. The nerds with the, "Pft, look at all of you wasting your time watching Jersey Shore, if only you could see the world through my eyes, oh man I'm going to go play some Street Fighter" sort of deal?

That's actually a large part of why I made this thread. I was talking with people about Reach, and a lot of them were guys who'd say that shooter "X" was great but that Reach SUCKS. I'd say, "Dude, I played Reach, and it was pretty great. How come you think it sucks?" And it'd turn into this huge chain of posts of me pulling teeth to get even one specific example of something they hated. I remember I spent a whole page talking to this guy about why the Halo franchise sucked before he even named one actual example of why it was terrible. He kept calling it glitchy and broken at parts, and after prodding him over and over for examples of where Halo 2 got that bad, he mentioned one part in the campaign where the covenant weapons would chug a bit whenever you fired them.

LordNue, I'm done. You can go now. You're free of my "elitism". Our conversation is very much so over. Please stop.

off game (lolwut term) I hate people calling random games ripoffs of other games, just because they are in the same genre or they happen to be similar (which is rather complicated, considering the ammounts of space marines, for example, now adays), for example, there were these assholes once that Vanquish is a ripoff of Gears of Wars (wha- the fu-)

or worse, some guys yelling that Bayonetta was a ripoff of Devil May Cry (uh, same development team? maybe?)

and shit hit the fan on this one, somebody said, now get this, that the UAC Elite Marine Unit (aka, DoomGuy for the lesser acknowledged) was a ripoff of MASTER CHIEF

WHAT

THE

SHIT
Hahahahaha. I haven't laughed that hard from a post in a loooooong time. Where'd you that at, a forum board or the guys at school?

Voted all and feel compelled to ask the OP what he thinks about pacing, level design, and mechanics of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

Nothing wrong with the Escapist, but anyone who says that this is a place that is welcoming, and not at all full of douchebags - really hasn't spent enough time looking for forums to really get a good discussion going. Smaller forums with a strong, constant user base are always far better than these big ones that cannot help but be big due to the users that are pulled in due to the sites content. It's hard to find a good place that squashes douchebaggery the moment that it pops up.

It's hard to enter a single thread here and not find some idiot acting up who instantly derails the argument or argues some point that makes no sense endlessly, endlessly and endlessly. A lot of these things do bother me - yes, but it's pointless arguing about it here. It's mostly just suck it up and try to make the best of a situation.
Gee, I think you'll find a fine example of that in this thread if you follow the gigantic quotes and the person I kept calling an idiot.

But hey, forget that. What's your beef?

Alright - not really sure if that's attacking me or supporting me so I'm just going to take my own advice here - ignore it, and walk away. I've made threads like this before, I think I made one here before. It never ends well.
Um, no, I was actually talking to about some other guy I just got out of that with and I was asking what other issues you've got with the gaming community, since I'm assuming you're here to lay down the law with what's bothering you and ought to be fixed. Like the rest of us here.

famboyism for some reason every time a new console is released allot of dumbshits need to say "DERP DERP X IS BETTER BECAUSE OF Y AND A SUCKS MONKEY BALLS IS GHEY BECAUSE OF B" I was one of those shitheads (a WII fanboy) but after a while I opend up and see both pros and cons of every console another thing I hate are exclusives FFS the controler layout oof the PS3 and 360 is pretty much the same HOW HARD IS IT TO PORT STUFF FROM ONE TO THE OTHER look you can increase game sales if you market it to a bigger audience one more thing is backwards compatbilty the ONLY console that nailed that is the WII the 360 has little to no BWC and PS3 has none eventhough the controler hasnt changed
