I think that Warhammer might have just hit on a plot target that both Age of Conan and Warcraft missed. That target is throwing the player into the middle of a balls to the walls war instead of going prior or after the fact. I'm sure being a general in Warhammer would stroke the ego of players a tad more then those in Warcraft since they can imagine them being something other then being a wimp who's body stature does nothing to deter from the fact that they are basically hippies with computers (Including me). I was sort of iffy, but I might actually try this out just to see how to throw the whole world war aspect into the game. Perhaps people can jump right into huge battlefields and begin hacking away? If this is a possibility I think I would thoroughly enjoy it myself.

Let me assure you that it is not only a possibility, but one of the coolest parts of the game. The zones in Warhammer all have objective points that can be captured by either army, which leads to some truly epic PvP skirmishes. I haven't been able to experience the city sieges since all the previews and betas I have participated in have been content-capped, but the constant feeling that you are in a hostile environment-- which changes based on who controls the territories-- is something you just don't get in other MMOs.

As for ego stroking-- one part of WAR that I thought was really neat was that you are able to display your Regiment's (guild) standard and colors on the objective buildings when you capture them. This encourages large-scale, organized guild-on-guild battles to control landmarks.

September 14th can not come fast enough.

During war plots gives you a bigger sense of immersion; huge battles which you are in the middle of are quite captivating.

-Holds his hands out- Yes come to me my Warhammer fanboys! I went for the Beta, but I was both too late and lacking with anything they apparently liked in a gamer so they told me to quietly go eat myself. Well I might buy it, but I've gone through more then enough bad purchases to be cynical at this point.

I dont really think it matters too much.

Ideally, The story could trace throughout the duration of the war.

Maybe start with some training (action packed obviously because i hate those stupid training missions you get) then the story developing. You enter the war and start kicking ass. War ends, you win. Obviously. But that's not it. A slight aftermath requires a few more missions and then the ending sequence wrapping things up nicely.

The best thing about WAR at this point is that you don't have to fight a single monster if you don't want to. You don't have to complete a single quest if you don't want to. You don't even have to fight a single player if you don't want to. For me, being able to level from 1-40 (so far, I've gained 1-20 doing nothing but scenarios and a little bit of world PVP and a keep siege) and have not killed a single monster. Not a one.

This is why I enjoy WAR.

The story is as basic as the Chaos gods want to make the world how they see and the patrons of the Chaos gods (the Chaos) have tricked the Greenskins and allied with the dark elves to fulfill the goals they are wanting to complete. Each faction has it's own story (6 total) and it's done in chapters. The Tome tells you everything you'd ever want to know about it and then some.

Well AoC failed, WoW's a bit boring so we'll see how an MMO taking place during a war goes.

I don't really see how AOC failed, it just really needs to be ironed out is all. The concepts are there just missing the execution. Luckily MMORPGs are patch whores.
