Um...no and you have to much free time.
Actually he's right, the devs have openly stated it's an anagram.

After all, Bioshock is based off a book by Ayn Rand: Atlas Shrugged.

if you're at least aware of ayn rand, and you actually paid attention to the characters when playing bioshock, this should be obvious.

but i guess some people don't know who rand is... so this is a good learning experience, i guess?

It was intentional obviously. A man who shares her views and just happens to have nearly the same name? The whole story was based on her philosophy... Now Atlas was merely a coincidence, by the way.

Has anyone else noticed this. Andrew Ryan has the same initials as Ayn Rand (author of Atlas Shrugged). I was wondering if you guys thought this was intentional or significant?

Let's use the spoiler boxes on this thread.
His name is actually an anagram of Ayn Rand with some letters added. It was intentional.

Bioshock is supposed to be an attack on Objectivist views. Rand is objectivist. So yes it's intentional and significant.

Oh and
Atlas Fontaine=Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. Two of her books
I think my wiener just exploded

Who knows. Could be but since it's not a complete anagram it's hard to say how far their intentions went. Atlas is probably intentional but really it's hard to tell how just how many nods they intended and how many were accidental/ reading to far into it.

I picked up on the atlas bit, but I was wondering where Fontaine came from.

OT: Who are these people?
One is a video game character and the other is a HARDCORE right wing author from the middle of the 20th century. Her philosophy on the market is to let it do whatever it wants and it will be the best for everyone. That theory is quickly being debunked as utter bullocks.
That and it's changed it's name to assholism...

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be taking it as important, but I think Ayn Rand was a major inspiration to 2K boston when making Andrew Ryan.

Some gets a cookie!
But seriously, they reference it a few times in the game or games, since I have yet to play two. So yeah.

That blew your mind? Wait till you hear this...

These Pokemon are actually backwards words:
Ekans=snake
Arbok=kobra

The towns in Earthbound are named sequentially:
ONEtt
TWOson
THREEd
FOURside

The bushes in Mario use the exact same sprite as the clouds, except they're green.

Q on CBC radio apparently did a piece on how many things reference Ayn Rand, including Bioshock. The podcasts and youtube videos don't seem to have that part, though, all I could find was this blog entry.

Apart from that, I am going to assume you have never read Atlas Shrugged because the last third of the book is basically Rapture.
