Ok I was playing Mass Effect bring down the sky. The last choice really bugs me. It is all and all a no win choice here is the set up.
You have a Terrorist who has three innocent people trapped. This person who is trapped is mostly trapped because they helped you. You have only two choices let him go and save the people. Go after him and the people die.
He has already tortured other innocent people. If let go he will most likely attack and hurt other people. He also might be stopped later with no more loss of life.
I myself could not let a terrorist go even if it spilt innocent blood on my hands. The chance he will hurt more people is to much. I did leave him to stand trial later. That said I grazed and wounded him before hand.
What about you how did you or how would you handle this. Not as Shepard but as the real you. Could you take the guilt of watching people die. What are your reasons. (Please ignore the holes for not. Like the Normandy could have shot down any ship leave. You only have those choices. The live he leaves. He faces justice they die.

That event is actually my favorite part of the whole of Mass Effect, as it is the only choice that is a very clear no win with no "right" answer that would happen in a real scenario.

I captured him and let the people die, I've been called cold and callus but I really believe in the few for the good of the many argument.

For me, those kind of choices are the best moral choices in Mass Effect. There were a couple of them in ME2 as well. It's not a choice between good or evil, it's a moral grey. And I love them. They really stop and make you think about what you would do and who you are as a person.

I never played the DLC, so I never made that choice. But I wish games had more of them, rather than the obvious good/evil options.

Not really the point if you played but that if with those choices what choice do you make. Save the hostages and hope you can catch him later with no loss of life. Let them die and end the chance of more bloodshed later.

This is not a poll...

I believe I saved the people. We have no guarantee that he will be back, but we DO have a guarantee that those people will die.

That being said, if the damned batarian turns up in ME3 I will beat him to death with his own foot.

I don't know. One of the "morally grey" choices in ME2 was spoiled for me by a friend. And at the time I said, "Well, I would choose to do this." But when I got round to actually playing the game, the way it set up the choice was different to how he had said it was. And I ended up making the opposite choice.

My point is, without playing it to get the proper context, I don't know. I'd probably save the hostages, but if I played it and it turned out he's much more evil than you've made him out to be, that might affect my choice.

Fair enough and thank you for the answer.

I saved the hostages, but it bugged the hell out of me. I chose to save them because they were the only guaranteed deaths that i could prevent.

Get him and gut him like a fish.
make him pay for his crimes.
you'll save more people by sacrificing a few. If you let him go he'll probably hurt more people. better to finish him now then have to do it later.

yes i'm quite ruthless when i want to be (i didn't get the "frozen heart" for nothing).

Lesser of two evils. Take him down.

Shepard disagreed with me, he's such a bleeding heart.

I captured the terrorist, at least I'll still look like a hero. I mean it's not like the hostages can spread rumors about me.

I played the DLC on my last playthrough of Mass Effect (I had played it 5 time in a row to get all the achievements) After finally making it into a base to face the leader, I was presented with this choice.

Honestly this was the first time I actually paused and thought about what I should do, after a while I made my choice and let the innocents die. Great moment in a great game.

I let him go on the assumption that he'd get caught eventually if he did the same shit again. Sure, he might hurt other people, but they're blood isn't on my hands as directly as if I sacrifice the engineers on the actual asteroid.

My 2 cents at least. Done the mission a couple of times, and I have to make myself sacrifice the engineers just to see what happens. Revenge < protecting the innocent, IMHO.
