Tools music is better, more complex and deeper.

Plus Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor do so damn well together!

Well, I'd have to go with Tool, but it's a tough choice... They've both been in my short list of favorites for a while, as well, though I've been gravitating towards weirder music more often lately!

Tool. By far superior. But that's jus my opinion. There are likely objective reasons that could be raised, but mine are subjective. I really just can't get in to Perfect Circle.

Tool, easily. A Perfect Circle is great, but just nowhere near the magnificence of Tool!

Just in case anyone who posts in this thread don't know who A Perfect Circle or Tool are, I've added links to my favorite songs.

And please don't hate on me for my choices either.

Pretty much. I like both. Tool is insane and mind rapingly complex. APC is deep but it less stressful to rock out too, it's the n00bs Tool if you will.

lol @ the third video there - an alternative for all the Maynard haters?

My fave Tool song is probably Parabola, btw - but Eulogy is awesome as well.

But I have to skip over the weirder stuff on their cd's, like that bit on Aenima with the crying baby... *shudders*

EDIT:

Yeah, that's pretty spot on. I saw a pic of Maynard one time in a long-haired wig with the caption "Maynard in 'A Perfect Circle Mode'" - they're definitely a more traditional metal band, even down to the long-haired headbanging front man.

Pssh, A Perfect Circle by far. I've listened to both a million times and find myself always drawn to A Perfect Circle over Tool.

It's fantastic to mellow out to, and great to drive too.

like them both...

though I loved tool from word go, Can't go wrong with either one really as not only is Maynord in both, a large portion of tool is also in apc.. its more like their side project.

Though I will admit I still hold a deeper preference to older tool albums like Ænima and undertow.

APC is fucking amazing. Never let that go unsaid.

But Tool is, simply put, better. At least as I see it. Tool goes more for the longer, horror-/dream-/otherworld-scape songs, the longer "masterpeices", you could say. APC is shorter and less experimental than Tool. And I prefer Keenan's vocals in Tool too, with only a few excptions on the APC side (namely 3 Libras).

They have similarities but when you get down to the marrow of it they are 2 very different bands. A Perfect Circle is great chillin music where as if I need to be creative I'll listen to 10,000 Days or Undertow.

The best songs from each band
Tool- Vicarious or The Pot from 10,000 Days and Forty Six & 2 from Ænema
APC- Pet from Thirteenth Step

It depends on your mood!

APC is a bit more shallow, yes, a bit more mainstream, but it still has Maynard, and it still has rockin' instrumentals and lyrics, they're just more pointed, obvious, and plain. Judith, Magdalena, and Counting Bodies Like Sheep come to mind. Magdalena, by the way, being the most eloquent and beautiful stripper song I've ever heard.

You can rock-out to APC, but you experience Tool.

Tool for introspection and big, wide world of criticisms of humanity's faults, and always poetic, yet never requiring words to rhyme to sound so undeniably "sung". Hooker with a Penis, Part of Me, Prison Sex, Aenima, Stinkfist, Opiate, etc. I'm not too keen on 10,000 Days aside from Jambi, since I don't see the staying power of the aforementioned songs, but I still appreciate the points he makes.

TL;DR: APC when you're FPS'ing, Tool when you're lying on your bed wondering "what does it all mean?"... or when you finally decide to try mushrooms and chill in your living room at 2 AM with friends just watching the furniture breathe.

Neither bands are favourites of mine but I prefer PC over Tool because their albums aren't stuffed with superflous filler bullshit like Tool's tend to be.
