I went to NYC (and Boston) with my class in the eleventh grade. I'd love to go back and explore a bit more freely. LA and Miami also tempt me quite a bit. And outside of this list, Atlanta looks like a very cool city.

But who am I kidding, next time I leave the country will be to go to St. Petersburg. And I don't mean the one in Florida.

New York. I keep hearing the city's supposed to be a giant apple. That sounds like quite the sight to see.

Since I just came back from a trip to the Northeast and since I would never in my right mind consider paying to go to Florida, I'd have to say San Francisco or Hawaii. A lot of the people I met on the east coast told me I would enjoy northern California and it seems like an interesting area to visit both culturally and in terms of weather and nature. I also met a guy on a farm in Vermont who WWOOFed in hawaii for a couple of months, which struck me as something I should definitely look into adding to my list of things to do when I've saved some more money. But really, if I had the money i'd probably go to Europe or Autralia next time around.

*flails* Oh, well I didn't know! All I hear over here is 'Disneyland Florida or Disneyland Paris.'
I didn't even know until recently they had some sort of Disneyland in Tokyo too!
What's the difference between World and Land?
Well, the first Disney park created was in California, and Walt Disney called it "Disneyland." But they quickly ran into a problem in California--they ran out of space to build, and all sorts of businesses built around it to reap the tourist profits and they got locked in.

Walt decided he wanted a place to not only build a park, but he also wanted enough land to continue to expand and add on to as years passed. So, he created a bunch of little companies under fake names and bought up a bunch of land in Florida without letting on about it (because if word got out Walt Disney was buying land in Florida, the land prices would soar and other companies would buy it up as well). He ended up with a HUGE chunk of land, much of which to this day is still not used and open to expansion. He decided that the "Florida Project" was too large to be just another "Land," so he called it Walt Disney World, to emphasize its vastness and its inter-connectedness.

Because that's the cool thing about Disney World as compared to the other parks--when you travel between the parks and resorts, you never leave Disney property. Unlike Disney Land, you can go to the highest point of any park and not see any other forms of civilization. There's no WalMart, no McDonalds, none of that outside world poking through to remind you that you're in Florida. You're in the World of Disney :)

But the rest are "lands" because they aren't quite as vast. Disney World is only in Florida :)

I don't have much interest in ever going to the states in my life, but if I had to, I guess I'd go to Hawaii, since I like tropical islands and jungles and such.

If I'd move to the US to live, I'd like to go to Texas or Nevada. I kind of like the combination of modern convenience and wide open spaces the American mid-west has mastered compared to Australia where everything is either overly-metropolitan or completely isolated. I'd avoid living in New York or California for these reasons.

Austin seems like a pretty nice area, and I could get an awesome house there for what a mid-range apartment would cost here in Sydney, Australia.

The only downside is I hear the people in the more southern states like Texas and Louisiana tend to be more racist than other states. Maybe I'd be better off some place like Nevada or Colorado.

Yellowstone, because I want to see the volcano. And the North-West in general. It seems like one of the better parts of the USA. And it's right next to British Columbia, which is a plus.

actually NY....the state at least..is like that way. NYC obviously is a gaint city. The other cities of NY are significantly smaller. Whereas NYC has...what...8-9 million people, the city of buffalo, rochester, syracuse, and albany (state capitol) are all under 250,000.

Nothing wrong with texas of course. From what i hear, the food is good, climate isnt too bad, they are too far west for most of the natural disasters, and it is a booming state.

I've been to the US quite a few times and have a love/hate relationship.

1st time I went to the US I went to L.A. - Liked it.
Death Valley - Loved it.
Vegas - Underwhelmed.
Flagstaff and Grand Canyon - Liked it.
San Fransisco - thought I was going to like it. Didn't.

2nd time I went to Hawaii, Maui - Liked it.
Went to Hawaii (big island) - Loved it.
O'ahu - Loved it.

3rd time Guam - Liked it.

4th time L.A. - Hated it.
San Diego - Loved it.

5th time - Hawaii, Kaua'i - Liked it.
O'ahu - Liked it.

6th time - New York - Underwhelmed.
Ohio - Liked it
Arizona - Loved it

7th time - L.A. Hated it.
Yosemite - Loved it.
Alaska - Liked it.
Seattle - Loved it.

8th time - L.A. Liked it.
Texas - Hated it.
Michigan - Loved it.

9th time L.A. coming up in a couple of weeks. In my cycle of love/hate with L.A. this time should be good.

Places I'd still like to go - The South - thanks to Left 4 Dead 2. And I'd love to see more of the desert. Maybe Florida but I'm not desperate.

Because 18 is ALSO the age where you're first allowed to fuck (17, if you and your partner are less than 6 months apart in age... i think) and granting a person access to two things that have terrible consequences when mixed/abused at the exact same time is a recipe for disaster.

I'm American but I haven't visited almost any of those places. I'll take since OP can't do anything about it, I pick Hawaii. Heard so much about it being a great vacation spot, plus I never visited or really seen an islands landscape before.

I have been to Yellowstone NP once before, on a five day camping trip up north. After just a couple nights at various camp sites, I fell in love with the place, even when I was worried the ground beneath me would give out and drop me into a pit of boiling sulfur.

Sixteen is the most common age of consent in America, though it does vary between states. Age of consent does not apply for anyone a certain number of years older though (usually 19 or 20 if the other person is 16), so a 20 year old cannot have sex with a 16 year old even if the age of consent is 16 in that state.

As for the drinking age it's not technically 21, you can drink in your own home with a legal parent or guardian, 21 is the age of purchase and possession. Why that is 21 is pretty hard to tell, but isn't 21 being required by each state a pretty recent thing? Like 80s I think? Anyway if I remember right some study said that our brains keep developing until then, and then there's all the overprotective mothers who can be very vocal, then there's also the idea that since most people get their license at 16/17 they should have more than 1/2 years driving experience before they begin drinking.

It's kind of a mess, so pick your favorite.

OT since I kind of derailed there:

Sorry man, but I'm sticking with Chicago on that one :p Can't wait to revisit next month and shove some down while cursing the Navy for only letting me have one weekend with my girlfriend there. Wow that one got away from me!

Annnyway I have yet to visit Hawaii, and I've been to most of the others as well as the Grand Canyon, Smokies, and more.

Actually for people looking for other ideas the Smokies is a a great place to visit and go hiking. Avoid Gatlinburg though. Nothing but a tourist trap and is pretty much the opposite of the environment you would want if you're hiking.

I have to say I'm impressed this hasn't been hijacked and turned into an "America sucks!" thread, especially with the title.

Nope! :)

Well you can, but some jackass might come by and take you too seriously then go off on a big post about the whole mess of things because the laws get so muddled it's difficult to tell when someone is only being humorous or trying to both be humorous and educational and said jackass then decides to give everyone their knowledge of the day because he's a loser who has nothing better to do.

Wait this sounds oddly familiar actually...
