Poll: A strange hypothetical question

Ok, important question: the OP says I'll take the blame for a bunch of really messed up murders, like legendarily screwed up ways of killing people. So a. will these murders actually happen, or will it just be an extremely persistent urban legend that never dies? And b. will my accepting this deal, assuming the murders are actually happening, help the murderer hide from justice?

On the main point of discussion; I do not care about my post-mortem legacy. As it stands, I won't have one, so screw it. I would take the deal assuming I wasn't helping cover up actual murders. Reputation after death doesn't mean much to me; helping some super psycho commit their evil acts is something I'd much rather not do, regardless of cash offers.

You will be given $1million dollars a year for the rest of your life, this reward will be disguised as lottery winnings and will not seem questionable to any friends or authorities.

BUT

After you are dead, you will take the blame for a series of murders and other atrocities that have absolutely nothing to do with this offer. All of your friends and family will be disgusted with you and your name will be recorded in history alongside names like Hitler, Jack the Ripper and Nicholas Cage. Your name will be forever tarnished.... but you'll be dead.

That depends what kind of evil stuff I get blamed for. Is it sexy, badass evil stuff that will get my name in heavy metal songs, or will it just be like, normal everyday evil stuff where people just think "oh that's really sad?"

An important question: If you don't take the money, do all the atrocities still happen? Does the person actually responsible get comeuppance,or at least the proper stain on their name? Or do we assume someone else takes the deal instead?

The murders have already happened, taking the money will alleviate the actual culprit of any punishment or suspicion.

I doubt my life will amount to anything anyway. Better remembered as a **** than not remembered at all.

Sure its all a lie, and the bloke who actually committed the atrocities will get away with it. But why should I care about people when every time I try to be nice and helpful, I get rejected, stabbed in the back, and then spend the better part of a decade in near total social isolation?

Let the bastard get away with it, and let everyone else know my name and fear it.

I will admit that I found this argument very enticing, but as awesome as money is (and it is, especially free money, and with that kind of dough I could buy every car or motorcycle I ever wanted, a house beyond my wildest dreams in any city in the world, and provide carefree lives for my children and loved ones) every cent of it I ever spent would be tainted with the memory of what it will cost me and those I care about in the future. Also I have a problem with spending money I didn't earn and getting credit for something I did not do/achieve, regardless of how good or bad it will be perceived.

And who knows how history will be remembered? Hitler thought the world would thank him for exterminating the "scourge of humanity that is the jewish race," do we? Mao Zedong is responsible for the deaths of even more people, people who put their lives in his hands and trusted his guidance and leadership, but he is remembered as a hero and savior, but is he one?.

No. Because I intend to be cryo preserved after my death until such time as I can be fixed and brought back to life. Living my second life time with everyone thinking I'm a mass murderer will be a bit of a bummer.

Well, at least 8 of us are honest. Unlike a couple others. Plus, times are shit. I'd eat shit for a million dollars a year ffs if it meant living financially easier for the remainder of my life. 99 problems and 95 could be solved with money, man. =/

I think you misread that. It says "only for more money". That means you would refuse the one mil a year.

Still, I must say that I think it's funny that eating shit is worse than being framed for atrocities while the actual perpetrator goes free. You have your priorities straight, guy.
