Yes. And I say it: there has been something like this!... in France!
Only a very few here will prolly know it and admitedly i find it hard to track it down ANYWHERE today. It still seems to air somewhat but is coded so I can't access to see if it even is the same as I remember it.
But for a year or so I had my heaven on TV.
It was called Game One (yes like that MTV short about games but MTV stole that idea, just like they tried to ape Game One's basic premise), and it was, bluntly put, CLASSIC MTV (MTV again... urgh) with Videogames!
What do I mean with that?
Imagine MTV airing GOOD music (as in: no pop-polution) with varieties in all sorts of genres and all mostly unknown or independant anyway. Or would you know any music channel that aires songs from groups like the "Roughnecks", "Freestylers", along with "Senser" and "Big Soul" and even "Blur" and vaaarious others?
I would list up much more but the last I had of it was an old VHS which I don't have anymore, but take my word for it: the music was varied and made you interisted in all kinds of songs and genres, because they showed not what was "popular" but was GOOD!
And all that with various AMV-like scenes and sequences (mostly in-game but also cut-scenes) as footage, done to a good mixture to go along with the action or the feel of the song.
Wipeout - Some trance song that was moody, mellow and yet somewhat fast paced and merged seemlessly
Metal Gear Solid - A sort of a rock-track with trance-by-sounds at a higher pace than you'd expect for a stealth game to work
Cool Boarders (dunno if it's the title) - Big Soul's "Julene", free, high, fast, awesome... it was a lesbian-freedom-song of highest grade!
And every now and then they would put in either game-mixes, where they took footage of several games, fitting or non fitting from the game's point but where the scenes really worked well with an overarching theme like the "ZEN-Mix" or "Angels-Mix" and all there like. Always with excellent indy-style music of bands we would BEG for on radio nowadays.
And what would a gaming channel be without some game-related news, previews, play-/walkthroughs and interviews?
That's right, this channel just simply had it all that I could wish for and I still wanna kill whoever was responsible for locking that signal of that channel for my receiver at the time but well...
Only hope that remains to me here is to spread the word and get someone with the funds and common interest to pull off something that is worthy like this great channel to re-air more widely.
Let it be known.
Game One - The original, French music channel... MTV like it should have been...
