(15 year old voting age? Fucking straight)
That would be disastrous, as parties would manipulate the impressionable minds of a teenager.
18 year olds I know generally are less rational or civically aware than 15 year olds I know. About half of the 40 year olds I talk to don't know jack shit about politics.

Either require a competency test for the vote, or lower the age to include those who ARE old enough to make their own decisions. I personally don't entirely oppose the idea of a competency test, but the fact remains that you would STILL have 15 year olds voting in any fair system.

The problem is, we a re students, so we have no rights. Even when we hit 16, we still have no rights whatsoever inside school walls. My German teacher hates this one girl, but although she's a ***** most of the time, I still sympathize with her because of the fact that most of the time, her arguments are valid.

Actually, that's quite lenient compared to how my high school acted. I am surprised you were even able to get to lunch wearing the hat. Mind you, at my school, I came dressed up in a silly costume the last day of school and was screamed at by the vice principle, so maybe my school was just fucked up. We also could not wander the halls during lunch, not could we opt to eat int eh special seniors-only room during lunch. Perhaps I should clarify: as seniors we were not allowed to eat in said very comfortable room, since the previous year's seniors apparently were misbehaved. I still have yet to figure out how punishing the next year's seniors solved the problem. Also, we could not have drinks, not even water bottles, all bags had to be in lockers (same with coats, jackets, or sweatshirts). No hats, but that seems arbitrary anywhere. Also, we had vending machines, but they didn't get turned on until 3:40, a full hour and a half after the school day had ended.

In my Catholic school, of which I am a member of the sixth form (england has 2 years of "college" before university, sixth form is a college in a high school), and so am allowed to wear what I like, right? Wrong. I can't wear my Iron Maiden t-shirt because one song called "the number of the beast" apparenlty promotes Satanism, yet all the chavs are allowed a "Jesus loves you" studded belt and kids are allowed to wear "shag-bands"(armbands that have different colours denoting different sexual acts, and if you twang someones, you're obliged to do that act with them [I dunno if it's ever happened]). So I'm not allowed to wear clothing articles of a classic metal band when I'm a member of the sixth form, but children in the lower-school are allowed to wear armbands that promote sexual promiscuity and underage premarital sex.

wait, wait a minute, what is that kid doing with that hat!

he is starting to take it off, hold position

Whats that under the hat!? WHAT IS THAT UNDER THE HAT!

OH MY GOD IT'S A GRENADE! CODE RED! CODE RED!

KABOOM!

*Hall monitor's open fire before being consumed by a gigantic roiling explosion, one of them runs away and is chased down the hallway for about 5 seconds before tripping and being consumed by the hungry fire*

See, that totally plausible scenario is why you should not wear your hat, after all, you might not even KNOW that you put a grenade under it.

i totally agree with you.
but i guess something fucktarted happend at that school that made them this scared.

or their just idiots, i tend to fight school rules that,s why i always wear a similar hat + sunglasses.

i make stupit but brilliant excuses about it.
for instance: the sun gives my brain to much agitation which makes me unable to think straight.(on a sidenote i,m slightly autistic, and know how to exploit it)

I don't think that's a legal rule, After all, doesn't England have laws about freedom of religion? as long as your shirt does not actively disrupt the class, I don't think they can tell you not to wear it based on religious reasons

My school dosn't have any really strictly enforced rules except the ones about drugs or guns. Theres a no smoking sign outside but people smoke and nobody cares. We can wear hats in class. We walk around the halls during lunch. Hell, me and my friend spend all of lunch in this one stairwell. The teachers are really lenient because the school has a great track record when it comes to students behaving. They give us leeway, we behave when there are visitors or when we're on fieldtrips.

My god. It's like because of the Iraq War, people ban green camo coloured clothes, anything that can be used as a weapon (e.g. a pen), religion, any skin colour that isn't white, and oil as a power source.

Everything you just mentioned is enforced just as strictly at my school. And some things we have you probably don't. Did you know they took away cups for 3 months CUPS. But get over it. Take tht hat off, don't loiter, and stay away from the halls at lunch. And don't go bitching about heat. I eat outside in 100 degree weather here in AZ so it's not that big of a deal. And if you feel like your gonna die, go to the library. If you have a pass from a techer (Which at my school most teachers will give you one without asking why) and play on the computers or something. My point is get over it. It really isn't a big deal.

You're not supposed to wear a hat indoors. It's bad manners.

Just wait until you graduate and mature after a few years. You'll start to realize how much you don't care about these things anymore. Looking back on it, I can't think of any rule my school had that didn't have a reasonable explanation to it, or was the cause of some idiot student ruining things for the rest of us (those are the ones who you should blame). Remember, your safety and education are the only things that the staff and faculty really care about, and they are the only things that are going to matter in the long run. Learn a lot, graduate, and get a great job that pays well and lets you wear your hat all you want.

Its not exactly school related but I used to live in this supervized independent living project thing where teenagers learn to live on their own. (Most of them are orphans or have troubled pasts) And it was strictly forbidden to have a relationship with a fellow resident. I never quite got that. You stick a bunch of teenagers with raging hormones in one building and you expect chemistry to stay completely out of the equation? If anyone broke the rule it meant one of them had to leave.

Funny thing is, this rule didnt stop the place from becoming one big orgy at times. And visiting your neighbour for a cup of sugar in the middle of the night had a whole new meaning. My neighbour especially. I think she had every guy in there including me!
what? I wanted to know what the fuss was all about. jeez, dont judge me!

If this had been a matter of it being impolite to wear hats indoors, I would shrug at this and move on. HOWEVER...that is not the case. So, I'm personally figuring on the notion that it's the typical kneejerk soccer mom mentality which drives the dumbest of rules. Put simply, this would be the clash of one's freedom of expression (even if you're not actively expressing anything) and people who think they can nip trouble in the bud.

Well, no. You CAN'T really nip that one in the bud. Check this out. If someone WAS a ganger and you forbid their flashy colors and bling, they're pissed. And when you do that to any person who isn't a ganger at all, you get THEM pissed as well. So, even if you're right, you're wrong because the eventual reaction is that you get angry people in your face, probably taking a swing at you. Is that nipping it in the bud? I don't think so.

Ah, but just you wait. It'll get alot worse. Half of every school shooting done by students is a kid who's mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore. Some are crazy, but I imagine that there's a portion in there who flip out because the faculty and board of education aren't doing anything that really helps. Maybe THEY think they're doing the right thing, but then it bites them in the ass and says "Pull the other one, mate!" and BANG!

Reading this has made me appreciate my school a lot more. We can pretty much be dressed however we like and there seems to be an absence of retarded rules, like those mentioned above. I think the entire ''no hats thing'' exists, but it has never been enforced.

Oh man. When I was in 8th grade, my middle school was so freaked out about one thing- weapons. They didn't allow us to have our backpacks with us at all through the course of the day, and they gave us a reason- so that we couldn't carry anything bad, like a weapon or a stash of gum.

But what took the cake was the one day that they announced hornets to be on par with a lethal weapon. Just a rubber band around your wrist, used to chuck bits of folded paper. It hurts, yeah, but having said rubber band around your wrist would get you 10 days suspended on the spot, with expulsion being a real possibility- same as having a knife.

Probably relates back to the day the year before that when some kid took the ball out of a computer mouse, hucked at anoother kid's head, and he had to go to the hospital.

At least we got laser mice out of that one.

It's funny when people get so uppity about electronics. The classes I did best in were the ones I was allowed to listen to music in, it helped me focus.
And the hate thing is only retarded in that they put so much work into it. I always had a joke in High school, "some schools crack down on drugs, some on gangs. Mine cracked down on hats."

While you ot your cups banned we got our very bendy knives taken away, and the spoons (for reasons im not saying for fear of being banned), also we can't wear any hat, baggy black jeans (blue is fine for whatever reason), and no flavored water anywhere but the cafateria even if you dont open it and its in your locker, also you can't bring anything in from home thats being sold at the school (aka vitamin water).

Yeah my school is stupid.

OT: The stupid thing in my school is I have hours that are just "sit in a room and do homework"
but I am super-uber intelligent, so I have all my homework done, and then I have 70 minutes left to do nothing except play that stupid game on my iPod.
I wish I had that much time. I could do all my homework then. If you have too much free time, why dont you get a book to read. Thats what I do.
you are not allowed to do that,
yes, it's that bad.
Not allowed to read!!!!!!! What kind of school is that. I couldnt survive school without books.

From a personal standpoint, hats are proven to be disruptive during class. The idiots sitting next to you could yank it off you and get you wrongfully punished for disorderly behavior. And while you can't hide any sorts of firearms (other than a single grenade or something) you can still hide pieces of paper with notes on them under your hat.

But yeah, you're onto many things here. Schools over here in Norway let you dick around wherever you want to during lunch, so long as it's not "employees only".
