I only included the big name series in this thread. Personally I think Devil May Cry has the best combat system and best controls.
I picked "action" because that's the main focus of these games. Shooters have genres like FPS, TPS, Shmup, etc... But the only way to describe these kinds of games is "action". Also, I think the Ninja Gaiden is inferior due to it's lack of a specific targeting system and the fact that it relies on context sensitive combos.Lazy Lemon said:Sholdn't the title be "Sword fighting games"? There's a lot of other big name games that can be considered action games (pretty much all shooters for a start). Anyway I picked Ninja Gaiden for the same reason as OP picked Devil May Cry. Devil May Cry has too much emphasis on style and a stupid metal soundtrack. God Of War seemed to be a solid game but I couldn't be bothered playing it past the first level. Maybe I'll finish the first two before No. 3 comes out so I have some idea what's going on with the story.
Do you really play these games for the story? I'll admit that God of War's story is most thought out by comparison, but all it really boils down to is Kratos shouting at some monsters during CGI sequences. God of War's story can't save its floaty mechanics and sub-par challenge.TOGSolid said:Um, they're all good really. The poll is rather ambiguous. Best story? God of War. Best challenge? Ninja Gaiden. Best mechanics? Devil May Cry.
I love all three of those series and play them tons and can't really pick a 'best' since I love each of them for slightly different reasons.
I'm sorry but I find the idea of Kratos as a developed character just laughable. He is completely 1 dimension. He sets out a goal at the beginning of the game and always takes the shortest and most forceful path to get there. His personality never changes, but at least he is consistent. Ryu, well, he doesn't even have a character, he is just a faceless avatar. I think I heard him say maybe 10 lines in all of ninja gaiden. Dante is just a punk, but at least he displays some range of emotions.axia777 said:I want to say Devil May Cry because Dante rules. But as a game God of War has better gameplay, better puzzles, a deeper more complex story, and Kratos is a more developed character. The only thing that DMC has over GoW is the fighting system. DMC has the best fighting system of any action game I know of. That and DMC has been getting worse as time goes on. DMC 4 was good, but not a great and DMC1 and 3. I deny that DMC2 was even really a DMC game. Ninja Gaiden is a good game, but it is too shallow. It has non-existent gameplay beyond just whipping ass whole sale.
