it's just such a shame that the AvP movies were pretty mediocre.
Let me state this here and now, for all the AVP haters in the crowd...
AVP the movie's suckage is the fault of Paul W. S. Anderson, Dan O'Bannon, and Ronald Shusett.
AvP Prey was a novel by
Steve and Stephani Perry, and it was FUCKING AWESOME. But the three urinal stains I mentioned above took
Prey and butchered it worse than even Uwe Bole could manage. Having read the novel, I can point out literally hundreds of scenes or plot points that were stolen from
Prey. But they twisted and warped it so fucking bad, things which were good in Prey, became tacky or horrific in AvP. They didn't even credit the novel for what they stole, but in the end I bet the two Perry's are glad, because they probably don't want the taint of Anderson's craptacular masterpiece to ill-effect their works.
So I say to you Escapists... If you can find a copy of
AvP Prey [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_vs._Predator_(novel_series)], do pick it up. Read it, then go back and suffer through another sitting of AvP to see the true horror of what they had done to such a picturesque Aliens/Predator plot. And if you like
Prey, and if you loved Alien/Aliens I'm sure you will, try the two other "official" AvP novels,
AvP Hunter's Planet and
AvP War. They reveal aspects of Predator culture and Xeno origins that the films never touch on.
Edit: I should mention, AvP Requiem has no ties whatsoever to the AvP novels. That was them literally shoving their hands up their own asses in search of what else they could use. Though for all its faults, AvP-R was better than AvP, and the PredAlien is the true result of a Pred being infested in the Aliens/Predator canon (the xenos come out with traits of the host, the ones we know of as the true "Aliens" are just the human-bred model, Alien 3's version was a canine breed, and there are others). And the PredAlien was a fuckload better than Alien-R's "newborn" slag.
