Yes, in a sort of a maybe way :p

Really, infinite number of stars/systems and a continually expanding universe, I find it hard to imagine us being the only planet with intelligent life forms.

Not in a "omgz, UFOs are realz" way tho ^^

Single-celled organisms hundreds or thousands of light years away? Possible. Not so much on the humanoid-coming-to-see-us type.

I believe they'd look somewhat like us, definetly a biped,, simply because iff there was an earth like planet, evolution would probably produce something like us.

if their planet wasn't at all like earth then who knows what.

I've always wondered; with the chance of an Earth like planet being so low, why has only one sentient life form developed on this planet.

We know Earth is ideal for creating sentient life, it created us. So wouldn't it be more likely that a second sentient life form develops in this perfect petri dish rather than some possible planet that may or may not be out there?

Of course they exist. Most likely not anywhere close to us but how could they not? I think that in 2012 there will be this great awakening in which the Aliens come back (I say this bacause in the ancient world they clearly made contact with other races) and they way we see the universe will change forever, Lets cross our fingers and hope our lives turn into something like Mass Effect.

It's essentially certain there is alien life out there. Considering the Billions of possible planets and other locations it's absurd to think otherwise.

I read an article about how the people at the institute for detecting alien life says that with their current system it could take as little as 25 years to find something. I know there's the possibility they're just trying to make themselves relevant. But I can dream can't I.

I really doubt out of the entire universe that we're the only ones. So yes, I think if not currently, then at least at some point they did.

Of course they exist, it'd be pretty odd if we were the only living things in the entire universe.

On a related note, I propose that me have a system in place for dealing with the inevitable first contact, and that system is... Upon meeting the Alien's ambassador or whatever, our ambassador punches him in the face and says "WELCOME TO EARF". I think it'd be a pretty good introduction to Human Nature for them.

Well Space is very large, it's very conceited to think that earth is the only one with [sub]moderately[/sub] intelligent life.

What they look like, no one could even fathom a guess.
Will we see them in our life time? Maybe.

Yes, they exist. No, they have never been to Earth, nor do they know about us, nor are they anywhere near us.

As for what they look like, it's pretty obvious:

bipedes most of them... similar to us.

Considering the sheer size of the blackness that surrounds us, it's absolutely illogical to think that there is no other intelligent life.

Almost a smug or arrogant thing to say, if you ask me.

You think we're all that significant in the universe? Think again.
nice reasoning! i like it !

They're out there, I just know it. Will they make their existence known to us? Probably whenever they damned want to.

of course there are aliens, hell but are there alternate dimensions existing next to our own where other "aliens" exist maybe on our own earth. what could have visited earth in the past and may still be popping in from time to time are extradimensional beings living in a dimension close to our own. way some ufos are purported to move changing directions instantaneously phasing in and out changing size and shape etc could all be explained if something was intruding from another dimension.

lest that would be far more likely then aliens crossing 10s of thousands of years form the nearest stars to say hi or mess with our air traffic guys.

if the hubble deep field scan does not prove the existence of life out there, since even in the tiniest blackest empty space in the sky there are near countless galaxies with countless numbers of stars in them with planets orbiting a good number of those stars, it is near impossible that there is not life even intelligent life out there.

Possibly. I won't give a definite answer without proof, but if I had to guess, I'd say that based on probability alone, there's more than likely to be several strands of life in varying states of advancement.

Question: would a mutated lifeform from Earth that has evolved into a completely different lifeform than anything ever seen on this planet count as an alien? If so then we have probably come across many "aliens" in the form of mutated bacteria while travelling through inner space (as opposed to outer space).
