I'm sure we've all been there at one time or another - we got a new game that's really fun, or we really want to finish this one game, or we started playing Tetris/PuzzleQuest/Final Fantasy Tactics and forgot to watch the clock, or we found the perfect group of people with which to play Halo/MW2/WOW.

Personally, when I pull a gaming all-nighter, I never regret it. I get into some kind of zone and don't want to stop. I just suddenly realize that the sun just came up, shrug, and get on with my day. I always do this New Year's Eve: after everyone goes to sleep, I pull out whatever I've been working on lately, boot it up, and greet the first sunrise of the New Year with something I truly love to do.

I was just wondering what the rest of you here on the Escaipst feel about all-night gaming sessions. Please feel free to post anecdotes, stories, etc in your posts.

It's a lot of fun with the right people - i.e those who don't annoy you / you legitimately like.

People get really delusional in the wee hours of the night, which often leads to them spouting the same nonsensical jargon over and over again until it starts to get on your nerves.

If I play games for more than a couple hours I feel like a waste of space. So I have not done this.

I have. At the end of it, I walked home (a few kilometers from my friend's house), then went to bed. At Noon.

Totally worth it, I've done it several times (usually with World of Warcraft or Ocarina of Time). On one noteworthy occasion, I spent the night beating Killer7, a move which heavily (albeit temporarily) impacted my sanity. Best. Night. Ever.

Me and my group of friend back west did it last summer when I went to visit them. It was Alaskan summer so the sun set for about an hour and we didn't notice. We all felt fine the next day though. Our recipe? Arizona Green Tea, Castle Crashers, a futon, and warm blankets.

I've done it a few times on my own (I played Animal Crossing on the Gamecube for 24 hours straight), and once with my friend when we were playing RE5 together. Though we had to stop around six his time (seven my time) because he had to go to work that day and needed to sleep.

It was still the best night ever.

EDIT: Also, does spending all night TRYING to make a game work online count? C'ause we've done that, too.

Totally, TOTALLY worth it.

I don't often have time to do things else at night (as I'm a Insomniac and I don't sleep well...) so I usually use the nights to play videogames or read books.

I rarley pull all-nighters for WoW but, I did for God of War 3 and for a bet me and a friend made a few years ago that I couldn't beat Super Mario 64 in 36 hours. I won with 6 hours to spare.

I'm sad to say i did it with WoW once. I wouldn't usually class myself as an addict, but i got carried away one night.
Just as i was about to get some sleep, thinking it was only 2am, my parents knock on the door telling me to get up ready for school.

Bad times >.<

I have done a couple of times with the right people. I tend to get really angry around 2/3am so it normally results in me coming off and sleeping.

I've only done three. One time I remember fondly ended with me lying in bed with a PS3 controller in my hand and waking up seven hours later. Good times.

i don't pull full all-nighters, but stay up to around 3 or so...the only ones i can remember so far are; the first time i started going on the zombie playlist on Halo 3(where its people versus alienz), few times when Modern Warfare was first released and when FFXIII first came out

Never done it. I feel really bad for some unknown reason if I am playing a video game after 12am. So after midnight, I never am playing video games.

I'm usually hungover new years day...

But yeah I do like pulling all nighters when I have time off, I did one last holidays with dragon age, played until about 5am, got hungry, drove and got some Macdonalds and played until about 11am, then had a long nap until 4ish. It was good.

I admit I have tried once or twice but when I reach round 3 am I got totally knocked out. The closest I've gotten to it is 5 am at a LAN but there was a major Company of Heroes stuff going on so I managed to stay awake :p

I am doing it right now, grinding the escapist forums (gotta get more posts, more badges, climb on the ranks)
But did it so many times, playing super mario in the old days, first civilization game, I played not just all night, but from around 8 pm of one day to 8 am of, not the next day, but the day after (so 36 hours in a row).
Used to play Civ3 and Civ4 online with matches going through the night till work time arrived and we have to call it.
Playing wow, mostly alterac valley BG when it used to last ages. One night spent hours fishing with my paladin cause I was feeling miserable and thought I deserved to torture myself staying awake and doing the most boring think I could imagine.
