This summer, I have experienced a phenomenon that I was not familiar with prior. I speak of course, of the all-nighter, or in lay-man's terms: staying up all night until the next morning.

As of right now, it is about 6:20 in the morning. Because of this ungodly early hour, I have decided to go and buy doughnuts, as the fresh ones will be there. Then I am going to sleep.

What about you, my fellow Escapists? Have you ever experienced this phenomena? If so, tell stories... stories are always fun and informative.

I pulled my first all nighter last Friday. We were drinking then running around outside then watching children's TV from about 4am.

It was a good night, althought I don't remember much.

This has been done so many times before.

And yes, yes I have.

Many times I have mentioned that hotel room in Milan and a giddy viewing of Evil Dead 2 at 5 o' clock in the morning.

I was awake for three days and two nights in a row once, don't think I could think very clearly during the morning of the third day. It felt like I was walking in a dream, and it was not an enjoyable experience. :S

I worked overnights for years... on purpose.

I've also had all-dayers, both on accident and on purpose.

I have pulled an all-nighter nearly as many times as I have used the Search Bar.

OT though I have many times from gaming (release of Halo 3, GTA IV, Gears of War 2) and when out getting smashed with mates (and a couple of times for the dreaded homework!), it's all good. Love the all-nighter!

I've had many a sleeples night, sometimes because of isomnia, sometimes because I wanted to.
Whether with others or on my own.
An example of one I pulled on purpose is when I stayed up all night to make sure I was awake in the early morning to wish someone good luck with something.
An example of an accidental one is when I was playing fallout 3 and played straight through the night.

I've done this several times. If you can pull an all nighter and stay up all of the following day then it can be a rather effective way of righting your sleep patterns... just make sure you get a really early night because your body will need extra sleep and you may end up waking up on the following days noon anyway.

I have lost count of how many times I've done these, as well as the number of times I've stayed up until 3/4am then gone to bed. You could get so much more stuff done if you didn't need sleep.

I've done it plenty of times, but never sober :p

I normally cant get past about 3am before I just HAVE to go to bed, but give me lots of beer and mates and films/ music/ drunken discussion and I can stay up till the next morning quite easily :D

Sure, once or twice. It's better not to sleep at all than just 2 or 3 hours sometimes. And if you're with good friends, it can be pretty fun really. Hmmm, night before last day of school was the last one. I kept falling asleep for like 3 seconds during class, waking up again, and falling asleep. Strange, but kinda fun.

Once you hit first ear university, it often becomes anomolous not to be up so late you see the sun rise. Now, of course, my friends (not me) do their share of anphetomines(sp?), so their sleep schedules are fucked. I had a more normal sleep/wake schedule and that was still like 3 or 4am to 12 or 1pm. First year is a weird year... but great.

Now, due to my current work schedule, I need to be asleep by 11:30 or 12... I usually end up on here or on IRC until about 1, then call it quits in favor of sleep. Depends on the day though... goddamn this internet smack addiction.

I have one at every sleep-over which is ironic since we don't sleep at a sleep-over.

Then, I also do them every time my parents are stupid nice enough to leave me along for the weekend or something.

Several times, but I guess the most interesting incident might have been being awake until about 3 am, then realizing I had a seminar at 8 am, figuring "fuck it, no sleeping for me tonight" and turning on Fallout 3. Set an alarm clock to 6:30 am just so I wont forget :p Then I went to take a shower and drive on.

Edit: Oh yeah, and good ol' Quake III times.

Yes, definitely has been done before. I'm sure I've told at least once before about taking a flu remedy with caffeine and then not being able to sleep the following night....

I've worked all night a few times (gotta love project deadlines and the 'oh, one more thing,' so beloved of creative directors). On the plus side I can take the next day off without getting stick.

Pulled all nighters for fun too, a couple of time at LAN jams and a few times partying in fields.
