Alas, it is not to be.
I think that if Alpha Protocol had been a little more refined though, it could have been something really excellent, because although the story was a bit messy, character interaction and continuity were brilliant, and I generally enjoyed the gameplay.

The crouched walking animation bugged the hell out of me though, just looked like Thorton was trying to stick his ass out through the screen.

Urgh, God no.

The first game was a complete mess. Clumsy gameplay, poor RPG elements, poorly paced and convoluted story, general lack of polish and quite possibly the very worst dialogue system I've ever seen. Also, being made by Obsidian and all, it was loaded to the brim with bugs.

It gave the player a good feel of choice, but that's about all it had going for it.

Sega very wisely dismissed any notion of sequel.
.... no? While I didn't play the game when it first came out, I never had any game-breaking bugs. I didn't find the story convoluted, on the contrary, I felt like it needed more depth and ambiguity. I won't argue too much with the clumsy gameplay, because I was playing on a pc and I think there was some kind of default mouse acceleration (boo). The rpg elements worked well and approached Deus Ex-level mastery in my opinion, and the conversation system is one of my favorites because you have real options and dialogue flows naturally, unlike many other games. (and don't give me the crap about being unable to select your choice, because I went through the game with a sticky mouse during dialogue scenes)

I noticed a lot of people did moan about Alpha Protocol being broken, but I never had any problems with it at all. Although I've heard it depends on your play style. I personally thought the game was fantastic, and a sequel would be awesome, although it won't happen.
Although if they ever did make a sequel, it'd be appreciated if it didn't have the friggin' tiny time limits for dialogue choices.

I loved Alpha Protocol and I would love to see a sequel to it. I know there won't be one which is a shame.

I don't even care whether they refer to it as Alpha Protocol, or Spanky McEvilpants' Big Adventure - as long as somebody picks up that downright fantastic narrative system I'm happy.

It had retarded AI and downright clumsy gunplay, but its dialogue alone made it worth a second playthrough, and I'd be extremely hard-pressed to come up with any other game that handles player choice (and consequences!) as elegantly as AP did.

Yes, or at least have the team behind AP's narrative and choice system work with the guys that did Human Revolution. Because what Alpha Protocol had, Deus Ex needed.

I know I certainly would. I loved the first game when I played it recently, and if Obsidian was given time to perfect what they had made for the first (or even polish it in any way XD), I think it could as successful the big boys.

A week ago I browsed through my 200 game Steam catalog to find something to play and somehow I noticed Alpha Protocol on my list (maybe because it starts with an "A"), and started to play it again. Mind you, I bought it and played it about a year ago, but it still worked very well for me, even though there is little in the way of replay value. Sure, it has some bugs, still, but I don't see the negative reputation it's been given. It is a damn good game: well written and the combat and sneaking are executed very well, too. The dialog-wheel is much better than any of the Mass Effects or the like, mainly because of lack of the awkward silences while the player is making the choice (there is a timer).

The point is, for those who didn't read the fairly short text above, is: would you like to see a sequel for the game? I know I would.
I loved AP. Despite its flaws, it was still a good, fun game. It did things that RPGs are suppose to do, yet many seem to fail to do.

Thats not to say it was perfect, the gunplay (while made sense because of the skill system) was somewhat hindering. And there was really no way to beat the bosses without resorting to pure combat tactics (you could play the game as a literal stealth-pistol ninja or a dangerous computer geek with nasty toys, you ended up still having to rely on straight combat and melee. Not to mention having some 60 year old dude shrug off shotgun blasts to his face or some crack-fiend with no sense in fashion, and kick you ass out of you ears.

I wish someone was making a sequal, if for nothing else to at least fix those problems... Hmmm, do you think there are some enterprising fans that would possibly make their own AP2? I would support them anyway I could.

Count me in. The gameplay was kind of broken, but this was for me the first title that really had "grey" choices. I think I played through it thrice :)
