So Amazon Prime is getting a price hike. Here in the UK it has gone from £49 to £79. Amazon are justifying this because Prime members will be able to stream TV and movies. Here is the problem I am having. I have Netflix, I don't need Amazon for that. But I am forced to cancel my membership because all I want is the next day delivery and the big price hike to pay for something I never wanted and will never use is unacceptable to me. This has pissed me off because I buy basicly everything from Amazon and having next day delivery on everything was great.

I can understand why alot of people will like this but I never asked or wanted it. I cannot see why Amazon could not offer different levels of membership, the original membership that is just for delivery and this new one because I imagine that I will not be the only one who does not renew my membership over this.

You guys didn't have the streaming thing? Weird...

Here in 'Merica, it's been that way for quite a while (I don't have it so I suppose I can't give you an exact date but it's been at least a few months).

To answer your question, I don't do an Amazon Prime membership in part because of that. As you stated, I have Netflix; I don't need Amazon for that. $80 a year to get slightly faster shipping on the crap I don't need isn't really worth it to me. I had tried Amazon's streaming service since the prices between it and Netflix are similar but Amazon's (the 360 app at least) is terribly designed for just browsing. A lot of stuff I wanted I had trouble finding (or didn't find it at all as Netflix has a bigger library).

Again, it's been a while since I looked but that's what I saw last year when I looked into it.

You know what's worse, the shit on the streaming service will most likely just be the crap that's on LoveFilm. I hope you like Bollywood and straight-to-dvd movies. I still think that £79 is good value for money if you're ordering lots of stuff over the year, whenever I order next day delivery the price is around £7 I think.

I've only ever used Prime when I got the free trials of it and the trial wasn't enough to make me pay for it so I doubt I'll be getting it now it's more expensive. Plus, like some people have already mentioned, I don't need the streaming services since I already have Netflix. Granted, even a hike to £79 still only works out at about £6.60 a month but it's still pricey.

I'm not even sure in Canada we have Prime. If we did we have nothing to buy on our super shit amazon anyways.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. Paying separately for shipping would be far, far more expensive for me compared to Prime's yearly payment.

Its not really a price hike. Its what I pay for the current Amazon prime and lovefilm instant package anyway.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Amazon plans to monopolize the market, they have been willing to lose money to do so. They want to be the only game in town so they can charge whatever for things. This could be the first indication that they have your market locked up.

Have you considered writing them a letter to this effect and requesting a mid-range price point for free delivery only? That would be the logical first step in my mind.

I can totally see your side of it - even as a user of the streaming content (I don't have Netflix ect. because I have a Kindle and Prime) - you shouldn't have to pay for what you're not making any use of - heck, I'd love to remove my free shipping option as I haven't used it much at all since I have been out of school - I used to order everything from them but not so much now that I'm back home.

Amazon Prime increase din price here with the streaming. Amazon's video service is inferior, and it is a browsing nightmare, but it does have some stuff Netflix doesn't have. But I rarely use the service.

Honestly, I use Prime because I do much of my shopping through Amazon and the two-day shipping is really handy around here. Especially since USPS can't seem to keep a package intact. There are some nice extras like Kindle First and a freebie Kindle "borrow" each month and whatnot, but the shipping is kind of key for me. And at the price, it is definitely worth it for me.

I'm still mad they upped the basic free shipping price in the states from a purchase of $25 to $35. Means I'll use them a lot less. Because I usually don't really save anything on items I buy from amazon if I have to pay their overpriced S&H fees to. But I've never bought enough stuff from them to justify getting amazon prime.

I did that but all I got in response was an e-mail outlining the new features, how great it was that they were combining Prime and LoveFilm and that I would actually be saving money as having both seperate is more expensive. They did not even reply to the part of my message that explained that I do not want and never wanted the LoveFilm stuff.

It feels a little like Microsoft and the Xbone. Instead of liserning to what people want they are telling us what we want and if we don't want it then too bad.

THIS

Paying for Prime is an absolute bargain if you buy a lot of stuff from Amazon.

Hell, Prime probably payed for itself in the last 2 weeks.

I don't buy enough from Amazon to justify the price. Plus, I have Netflix so I don't have much of a use for their streaming services, either. I consider getting it purely for the drone delivery but that will probably never happen.

I don't use Prime because I don't order that much stuff from Amazon (rather, I don't order much stuff in general), but honestly, price hike or not, it's still a great deal if you do a lot of online shopping.

I won't because I am not eligible for any of the benefits of free shipping anyway and I doubt that I could use the streaming service either. So I would basically be paying them £80 to... yeah, nothing. I can't even buy books for Kindle through them.
