Some entertaining US comedians out there however, such as the Texan (whose name I've forgotten) that regularly appears on British shows such as 'Have I got news for you' and QI.
It's Rich Hall.

Personally, the comedy itself is more important to me than anything else. I love comedies from both sides of the pond and I really don't think I could choose one over the other.

British by the way :)

These American vs. British ANYTHING always end up in favor of the British, Escapist is more based in GB than the USA.

Also, this is a vs. thread.
Alexa says it's 47.3% from United States and 11.8% from United Kingdom.
Facts strikes again!

I'm also going with British humour.
Alexa?

EDIT: Looked it up, great tool, I'll be using that a lot.

< Based in the USA, still acknowledges the VAST superiority of British humor.

During the time it took you to type that, you could have looked it up on google and found out by yourself.

The Brits win.

And this is coming from an American. But seriously, The Frantics, Monty Python, how could they ever not lose in this fight?

American comedy is mostly incapable of good humor. Unfortunately, some idiot out there decided that humor consisted only of sex jokes and randomness, both of which are tremendously insufficient for a movie to be called anything but abysmal. British humor remains creative rather than derivative, so it wins.

EDIT: Not to say there's no good American comedy: it exists, it's just rare. On a related topic, The Big Bang Theory is a hilarious show.

If there was a gun to my head, I'd probably say British humour as well. Then again, I might say American. Depends who's holding the gun...

With no guns in the vicinity though, I'm going to say Canadian

British, definitely. And this comes from a resident mid-American. Seriously, I'm an aspiring comedian, and I can't even begin to touch Hugh Laurie or Stephen Fry.

I see everyone is saying British, and I'm all for British humour, but I just in general laugh more at American humor. Sometimes American Jokes come at the cost of sophistication, but I just think that its funnier. I honestly can't actually speak for everyone else, but I'd be willing to bet that at least a fraction of you are saying British simply because you feel you're smarter by saying it.

British comedy is much much more witty than American comedy. So definitely British.
I was about to type the exact same thing. :3 American comedy just does nothing for me. It's just stupid. xD

Well if we don't have Comedy what else do we have!?!? I mean British entertainment can hardly compete with America for action, hell we could never even afford TV shows like Lost.

British and American humour are different. British humor is based on cleaver wordplay, satire, the macabre and the absurd. While American humor is more based around people tripping over furniture.

That being said, Jewish-American comedy kills me, I almost DIED watching Arrested Development, literally, I thought I was going to suffocate from laughter at some points.

But I find British entertainment in general very witty, probably because most Brits are almost constantly cracking jokes, we tend to favour some self depreciating humour over melodrama.

This really is pretty subjective to the mood I'm in, some American humour is awesome. However, like the other 80% of people who voted on this poll, I'm going to go for my own nationality. =P
