So what you're essentially saying is that Reggie is actually a robot built by Skynet, who's sole purpose is to prevent people from buying Amiibos? You know what I can believe that at this point, cause the way they're handling Amiibos over there just defies reason XD
It's the best - and only - theory that I've been able to come up with so far. :p

So yeah, whenever you hear a story about how "A shipment of Amiibos got stolen", you know that Smilin' Robo-Reggie has struck again!
Based on all available evidence it's the theory that makes the most sense XD

Proof!

xD I've never seen that before, but it certainly does go to support the theory.

That's Robo-Reggie after he has engaged "Shelf-Sweeping Mode" to snatch up all the Amiibos from a store.

This poor woman's 'crime' was simply not wanting to pay scalper prices on eBay for a Rosalina. Punishment is swift, merciless and final.

Amiibo in general? Not at all. I can find all kinds of Amiibo in the store I work at and the Gamestop nearby. Granted, they're mainly from the Super Mario games (Mario, Luigi, Peach) but I can also find certain others fairly easily (Diddy Kong, Sonic, Zelda, Sheik). The rare and uncommon amiibo though can be a lot harder to find. The only amiibo from the last wave that I've seen since their launch has been silver Mario and Pac-Man. I haven't been to a Best Buy recently so I don't know about the current availability of Pitoo...I guess it all depends on what I'm looking for. I was downright shocked to find that the retro 3-pack was still available on the 12th of August and when a buddy from work told me on the 19th of August that he was able to get a retro 3-pack for himself, I was still shocked. I'm hoping this is indicative that Nintendo has finally been able to boost the supply that will be made available for this upcoming wave. I really want a damn Gannondorf...really wish I could have got my hands on Charizard

Well, from my particular location here in San Diego, California (located in the US[footnote]Not to be confused with either San Diego locations in Columbia and Venezuela, respectfully...[/footnote]), the closest Wal Mart near me has a bunch under lock-n-key and the closest Target near me[footnote]By the way, both within mid-walking distance from my place, considering they occupy the same shopping mall...[/footnote] has a lot of Peaches with the rest (outside of the Splatoon 3-Pack) taking up the spaces that don't have a Peach on them... Meanwhile, the last time I walked to my closest Gamestop location, the employee that knows me acquaintance-wise [from a casual business perpective] has asked me if I wanted to put down money to pre-order the Retro 3-Pack because she knows how much I really want a R.O.B. and Mr. Game & Watch amiibo and the amiibo showcase area had every kind of amiibo at the time with, at least, two on their respected rack at a time... In other words, it's okay, but apparently the 3-packs seemed to be the ones that seem to deplete faster followed by everyone else but Princess Peach, if were only talking about my closest Target store...

Other than that, a R.O.B. and Mr Game & Watch amiibo will be mine by any legal means necessary... Also, I don't got to Best Buy for anything video game-related... :p

I live in Toronto, Canada, so a fairly busy area in the country. On our store shelves (ALL of them. Walmart, Gamestop, Toys R Us, Best Buy, etc), we only have the common mascot characters like Mario, Pikachu, Zelda, Peach, Link, etc. No Marth, Rosalina, Shulk, Lucario, Meta Knight, or anyone else. Can't even get them from those retailers online, and most Amazon sellers have scalped prices of over $40 (there are cheaper ones now, but I'm not entirely sure if these $20 Japanese Amiibo will work on Canadian devices, if they're legit at all). Never tried to pre-order, but it seems like a pack of wolves fighting over a single chicken wing.

I don't think Amiibos are region-locked. A surprising number of the ones sold in my area are clearly Japanese imports.
Both my Link & Zelda Amiibos are Japanese in fact.

Given that Japan, historically has been considered NTSC, and North America & canada have an easier time getting Japanese stuff to work than the PAL areas do, I doubt it'd be an issue.
My two Japanese Amiibos, (bought in Australia), work perfectly fine on my European Wii U. (specifically a UK model. Then again the only difference between PAL models appears to be the power adapters included. All PAL countries including Australia and most of mainland Europe are listed in the system settings.)
Had no issue of any kind with it.

In short, I'm quite certain Amiibos don't have any kind of region locking on them.

Amiibos are one of the worst ideas ever conceived.

It's effectively disc locked content tied to a digital download that's arbitrarily locked to a physical item, taking up space, having shipping costs and being finite in stock.

But hey, I'm sure the scalpers ****ing love the concept.

Would have been better had they made toys/statues completely unrelated to the digital content, but then I guess they wouldn't be able to hike the prices up as much.

But the conclusion is pretty obvious. Amiibos are really easy to get hold of in Australia.
Well yeah, but so is poisonous animals. Ask yourself. Is it really worth it?

Ah, that's good to know. I know Nintendo can be a pain with their region locking, so I wasn't sure. Thanks.

Here in Ireland at least where I live anyway you can only get the common ones like Mario,Pikachu,Link etc easily. With the more niche ones you basically have to buy them online at potentially inflated prices or hope you get lucky and find them in one of the shops

I didn't have any trouble getting the four Amiibos that I have - Link, Zelda, Toon Link and Samus - but I suspect that's more to do with the fact that they're common characters. Still, I don't think I've ever had trouble finding Amiibos that I'd like to get - the GAME stores here in the UK all seems to be pretty well-stocked, mostly again with the more common and mainstay characters that you'd expect to see. But yeah, I live in the UK and I've found Amiibos easy to find and et a hold of.

I'm in NSW Australia.

The local game stores have a huge supply of them, even the ones I hear about online being rare, like ganondorf rosalina.

I've seen pretty much every smash character multiple times and plenty of yoshis wooly world amiibos of every colour.

I don't get why, but that's what I've seen, maybe close travel distance between japan and australia, or both using PAL codes?

At first, I just wanted to collect a few of the Amiibos based on some of my favorite characters, but seeing how the availability of some have become, I'm more or less put off on the idea of buying them simply for collection's sake.

There are some of the more 'common' Amiibos available at my local retailers (mostly the Mushroom Kingdom gang) while I have to go to a special warehoused swap meet in order to even find the Amiibos that I want. They are, of course, much more expensive than their retail price, so I'm still waiting for that to not be a thing anymore.

The only set of Amiibos that I would buy the second the prices become reasonable is the Splatoon set (Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl, and Kraken), primarily because I am playing the game and I actually want the exclusive gear and weapons.
