Sneaky guy with a bow. Snipe from the shadows, cast enough Chameleon to sneak away from the "how the fuck did they know exactly where the arrow came from?! Really?!" badly-programmed AI, lather, rinse, repeat.

Last character, fight styles in order of relevance:
1. Sneak, Bow - love them arrows from the shadows (rhyme unintended)
2. One-handed longsword, no shield, On Touch spells - mostly for when they get close although it is nice to put a sword through someone's back or tap them lightly on the shoulder with 20k volts :D
3. Few ranged spells and some healing spells for (very rare) prolonged combat

Basically, an assassin character (always wearing the black robes from the Dark Brotherhood) who mostly kills unseen. If she does get spotted, the longsword keeps the enemy at a distance. The shield felt inappropriate (as did a 2h sword) so I never wore one, imagined her more as a sort of athletic combatant in melee, focusing on swift movement and blade swings.

I generally play as a sneaky conjurer who knows how to use a sword. I love summoning my own little minions to distract the enemy while I sneak up behind them and stab them in the back ^_^

Khajit with dagger, light armour and illusion magic. So kinda agile fighter thief thing. You can overpower anything with sheer speed, and by the time they react, cast a short duration invisible spell and run around them and start butchering again! Also weak summoning spells for distractions.

X3 sneak attacks? If that was all, I wouldn't bother. X6 sneak atttacks are why I stealth...

I always play a Shadowscale(Shadow-born Argonian) assassin but the other Shadowscale in the game keeps telling me I'm not really a Shadowscale. I prefer to stealth most games, often resetting if I get detected. Of course in Oblivion it's pointless to stealth in some quests and the best possible strategy in others, so I like that balance. Of course I do invest a few points in magic so I can go invisible, detect life, and heal.

I used to be a fighter with either summoning or destruction. I used to love playing keep-ups with dead bodies and flame tempest.

With my first character, I started out focusing on melee weapons. As I got into the higher levels though, I found myself using destruction and summoning magic as well. So I ended up becoming a heavy armored, sword weilding, destruction magic firing, summoning, argonian badass.

Summoning/Melee. (But with mods - longer summoningtimer).

fun to wedge foes between yourself and some conjured demon.

I'm the dude who blasts you from behind with a spell that does over 900 damage over a few seconds with a 10 foot radius. So, the mage.

I was formerly the dude with practically unlimited health and fatigue who would slash you to ribbons and laugh as I clanked down the street in my 400 lbs. of armor.

I'm some sorta agile fighter. Lots of agi and no spells. Mostly one-handed melee but sometimes I like to use a bow.

I usually am drawn by the Dark Brotherhood quests, so I go sneaky. Goddamn is sneaking and stealing stuff fun. But I also enjoy a heavy armor clamor fighter as well. Magic is fun, but you die a lot and its hard to progress w/o trainers.

I love to start off as the agile fighter (I'm thinking that's a speed and strength combo). But the nature of the game makes it so you're a jack of all trades by a certain point. I kind of wish it wasn't like that.
I actually understand what you mean by that, and I agree. This is exactly why I said what do you prefer. :p
Cool. On my playthrough right now, I'm an Altmer (though I usually go Redguard). I'm a hand-to-hand specialist (definitely my favorite melee style) with lots of speed, strength, endurance, and personality for some illusion spells. I'm a light armor specialist but actually have spent most of the time wearing clothing enchanted with shielding (I just like the way it looks). So I'm kind of a hybrid but mostly an agile warrior. I named the custom class "Self-Made Man".

I'm more of a magic character. There is nothing more satisfying than using a custom powerful lightning spell and using it on a character and seeing their body fly against the wall at 60 MPH.

Sneaky guy: Max out on stealth, get that ring of concealment (from one of those shrine quests), and buy the invisibility spell from the Dark Brotherhood. After that, it's a cinch to avoid random fights, meaning you can save your strength for those "boss" battles that can't be skipped (I'm looking at you, elven dude who stole the ruby necklace macguffin!)

My level 40 character was a Breton who was a master of destruction and a master in blade. it served me well.
