PS3 is more powerful, and has Blu Ray so unlike the Xbox doesn't need multiple discs. Also the hard drive is standard so replaceable, the pads come with battery packs and chargers rather than them being an extra £30 and you don't have to pay for Live.

And I have an XBox.

I have to say that I used to favor the Xbox 360, but in the past year or so, I've grown to like the PS3 more. It is more powerful, but I think in terms of games, the two systems are pretty equal. The Blu Ray is a huge bonus, IMO. Also, the media apps and the design of the UI is easier to use and more refined on the PS3 as opposed to the Xbox.

With the most recent update, Microsoft has borked the dashboard. They've made it more easily navigable but only in terms of Kinect. It's a step backwards in all other areas. It's clunkier to use now, there are ads integrated into it, and it's slower than the XMB on PS3.

Also the Netflix and Hulu apps now appear more washed out for some reason. The new Netflix app is crap compared to the one before. You can't pick episodes of TV series unless you launch whichever show first. The rewind and fast forward features are not as good as that on the PS3, and it's not as easily navigable using a regular controller.

The only plus side to the Xbox is that it has arguably more games, some of the cross platform titles play better on the Xbox, and you have Xbox Live, which is admittedly a better online service for playing games than the one implemented on PS3. The only caveat is that you have to pay for Live, which is now $59.99/Mo.

IMO you get much more for what you pay for with the PS3. The only question you should ask yourself, is which console more of your friends have. That should be a primary deciding factor.

more than hardware youll have to make a choice on the type of games you want to play, while it is true that most games are multiplatform now a days, there seem to be some obvious quirks between consoles.

The most recent example being Skyrim. If you want to play Skyrim on a console youll have to get an Xbox because at some point it will become unplayable on the PS3(if you are unlucky).

So please give some more background info on the types of games you want to play.

Didn't Bethesda just come up with a new update? 1.4? And yeah game wise I want to play Skyrim, BF3 and maybe castle crashers. Of course these are just the main ones

uncertain, but I do suggest you look into it thoroughly.

They are both very good and it does not matter which you choose, as either way, you are getting a great system.

If making any decision between, only look at the exclusives for what you want.

Speaking of exclusives, that is why the Wii is my favourite console of this generation.

After all these years, and having played a great deal out of all three systems, I have to say that the Wii wins. The PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 may have the graphics. But in my opinion, the Nintendo Wii has the best library of games and is the most exciting to come back to, here in 2012.

But both the PlayStation 3 and XBOX360 systems are very high quality and have a plethora of games. They're pretty well equal and you can't go wrong with either one.

PS3 is technologically superior. But if you want to play Halo, then there is no other choice. Infact, if your primarily in it for the online play, Xbox Live is better (even though you have to pay). Otherwise PS3 wins.

That is a terrible choice. Wait for next gen.
Seriously one is a toy, one has notoriously defective hardware, and the other has notoriously horrible support.
If the PS3 had decent firmware support and decent third party support, it would be great.
If the 360 wasn't made out of oily rags and didn't have a monthly fee, it would be great.
But I can't in good conscience recommend either of them.
