Poll: Angry Mobs

A few years back, while in an informal "discussion" assembly (note: this took place in the deep bible belt of Texas), I got into an argument with about 75% of those assembled over genetic engineering. Eventually, one of the people at the head of the opposing argument said that genetic engineering was "against the will of God." I promptly said that God was not a valid argument, and is never a valid argument in any secular discussion (note: I am a christian, I believe in God, but I don't believe that his will is a valid point in a secular debate). You've probably guessed what happened next by now. I was running, and they were chasing. Luckily, I managed to get to my car and drive off before they caught me (As a side note, a similar event happened several years before that, when I criticized G.W. Bush's reasons and strategy for Iraq BEFORE the war [again, Texan Bible Belt]).

So, anybody else out there with angry mob experiences?

This threads put the angry mob song in my head from the kaiser cheifs but alas no i've never been chased by an angry mob and generally think about what will piss off 90% of the room and pretend my opinion was the same, the plan works honest. Also because i'm asthmatic and a bit slow it would be a bad move to annoy alot of people at once as they could clearly out run me

Thankfully, no. If a mob was after me I wouldn't run though. I would stand there and let them reach me, and see if they're actually brave enough to do something more drastic than chase someone. My bet is no. But the first one who touches me is getting knifed/maced/shot, and then arrested. The first by me, the second by a cop. Unless I become a cop, in which case I could handle everything myself...

Wow, that sounds scary. I've never been chased by or been in an angry mob. But if I was.. I'd probably run like a little girl in the opposite direction.

I have been chased once... And it wasn't much, just about 5 chavs in the park. I got to the concrete path, grabbed the closest one and beat his head repeatedly on the floor, asking him if my music was still retarded each time... i looked up, blood was all over me and the floor, the guy was unconscious. everyone else had run away. i called the police, left him there and ran. Good times.

My city isn't too big (around 300 000 people),and it's BOOOOOORING. I'm not sure if there ever was an angry mob in this city.

Nope. But I have spoken with several other christians in the same room about why I think abortion is a viable option and even promoted it. I also expressed pretty early that I don't believe in their God, nor that everyone should follow the "laws" of God either. You know what they did?

They disagreed of course, but otherwise acted like civil people. : )

And that's what all real christians should do. Idiots chasing you and trying to beat you up don't deserve to call themselves christians since they have perverted their religion into violent bigotry.

First time it was when i was with my team during training in southern Canada and one of the excersizes they set up was mob situations. We stood our ground and they threw stuff at us. I ordered my team weapons up and we fired non lethal rounds at them like we were told. well the "mob" didn't know they were non lethal so charged us...training gone to real in the blink of an eye.

Second time was a swine flu protest and i was told to guard the gate at a pig farm. some angry people arrived and started protesting the sale of pork(you can't get swine flu from a pig you can give it to them and they spread it among other pigs, cooking the meat also destroys the bug) i shut the gate and told them to stay away from the gate or i'd electify it. They drove a truck into it so at which point i zapped the gate, threw tear gas gernades and set the farm into lock down. Some idiot shot at me with a salt round from a shut gun so i called the RCMP in and they fled. I'm just glad i was wearing the riot sheild otherwise that would have hurt alot.

third time i threw a chair into a concert crowd and caused a massive mosh pit.

4th time i got chased by a christian camp over may long when i said god doesn't exist when they said god loves you...they chased me in canoes...

It involved a History class concerning Suffragettes and me suggesting they revert to 50's values and get back in the kitchen, then running away to shops while people tried to hit me with the closest object to hand.

Vaguely in a mob once, not much of one but boy were we angry. It was a V festival (hard core I know) and the police just stop us from going from one of the performers (the streets) to go see The Enemy one stage over. And we had to go soon because lady Gaga was on next (and no-one wants that). Its mainly a lot of shouting and the occasional thrown beer and (me and a friend) sining

Guns don't kill people, rappers do, so do the police whoop whoop whoop (song by goldie lookie chain)

Feeling of solidarity towards a common anonymous enemy was quite cool but it didn't turn violent)

guy in my year punched a girl in the face, like properly (she was a *****, it was hilarious) and was chased around by a large group of outraged girls and a large number of guys who just wanted to get in a fight for a good half an hour. they never caught him, but he was shaking for hours afterwards because of the adrenaline and the plain old fear caused by his near death.

I've been chased by like, 5 people at once and I don't think that really counts as a mob. I was hanging out in the park with this guy I know and his boyfriend. Some chavs come near us and sit down and they're playing really loud music so we decide to move somewhere a bit quieter or something. We get up and start to walk away and my friend makes the oh-so-terrible decision to kiss his boyfriend on the cheek and then walk away holding hands

His boyfriend and myself managed run fast enough but my friend got the crap beaten out of him. It was well sad D=

Angry mobs are largely instigated by ignorance or booze. Whichever comes first.

Holding a poll like this kinda counts on people being honest and if you were involved in doing an ignorant thing, most likely you won't admit it to people who won't know any better.
