I'm asking this because I bought Volume 1 of the Lucky Star manga the other day, and I have to say I enjoyed it as much as the anime. But most people say the manga is better than the anime, or vice versa. I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

I chose anime, if only because it's easier to pirate. Maybe if I had an e-book reader...

I have seen more Anime than I have read Manga but from what I've noticed, the Manga's are always much, much longer. Some may see this as a good thing but generally speaking they just drag them on and I suspect it's to make more money because they always sell the damn things separately.

I like manga more if only because you don't have to suffer through some terrible fillers. Although I'm finding the current Bleach filler quite enjoyable so eh.

It sort of depends on the genre I think.
I have often trouble understanding what is going on in manga that contains action. Who's who and who does what and what the hell are they doing to begin with!? It's just a lot more obvious when things get animated.

Then again, manga does offer more room for story and character development.

Like I said, it depends.

In some cases, like Gantz, I prefer the manga anyday. Can I believe that an Anime can do better than it's Manga counterpart? Sure, when done well.
Problem with alot of Anime's, is that the manga that it's based on usually has such a big fanbase riding with it. So when something get's messed up, it's a Big deal to them. I'm partial to both, but I would say Manga surpasses Anime.

I like manga better, I find it easier to pick up and read. With anime I have to be sitting in front of a TV and that annoys me.

I have liked both, sometimes on the same series, but often I will prefer one or the other, and of course within the anime you have a sub or dub preference. Manga is often a better bet over the long term, with very little filler, whereas it's almost a necessity in anime, to keep a decent distance behind the events of the manga. In a way, that's the only drawback, anime is more readily accesible and better looking than manga, but the filler can often be diabolically bad, as opposed to the manga, which can be very stylish and consistently delivers on plot and character development...

Manga, I guess.

I prefer reading the manga to watching the anime, but only marginally, probably due to my love of reading over television, and the lack of awful voice acting in manga.

honestly, i always like both anime and manga because there's always the possibility of either one, or occasionally both, having parts of the story that are considered canon that the other does not. and even in the event of non-canon story, it's still just more to enjoy. like the original fullmetal alchemist anime. it differs quite a bit from the manga, but it's still an awesome show.

I think manga can offer a different perspective that the anime. Bleach is a good example of this. I prefer the pacing in the manga, but the fight scenes are obviously so much better in the anime. Manga can give you a deeper inner sense of the character also. Anime, if done well, can help complete the visual color palette and audio perspective of the character. Lucky Star(manga) parallels Lucky Star(anime) pretty religiously, but the anime rounds out the girls nicely with good voice acting and gives one a different perspective of the characters.

the only reason people may say that anime is worse then the manga, is because the manga is the original, making it instantly and irrevocably the best is what most fans of a seris have, but i think it's just how they dislike shitty filler( i'm looking at the bleach beach party episode, as it bordered on soft core hentai.), but also when the anime ends in a way that has the clousure of a cancelled seris, unless you read the comic(berserk, inuyaasha etc.) so i can see why a lot of people think that the manga is better then the anime, even when it is more or less the same thing.

Well it depends. If an anime adaptation is basically pulling frames from the manga only in colour and in motion, then anime. If they are cutting out detail and nuances that make the manga good in the first place, then manga.

Otherwise it's apples and oranges to me. It's like saying comics or cartoons.

When it comes to anime/manga, I prefer it on paper, or as porn. When I'm watching anime, I just get this feeling I could be watching something so much better instead, and I end up feeling like I'm wasting my time. Because, really, I would so much rather watch Star Trek than some brightly coloured character completely lacking in depth trying to get me to care about a plot that makes absolutely no sense. I'd rather just read it, really, because at least then, it's easier to imagine the characters as something they are not. Like... sympathetic... or interesting.

I think a lot of people say that just because it makes them sound more "real" somehow. Personally I've enjoyed both to an extent, even though mangas generally tend to have a lot of full page action scenes that really look more like just a bunch of scribbled lines. I've found I generally like to look over both of them. In the end I think manga fans are just traditionally seen as more loyal to the franchises, where as anime watchers have been more fickle and easily lost over one or two things they don't like about a series.

In the end I suppose you like what you like and really just shouldn't give a damn what anyone says.
