I just wanted to see the opinion of members of the Escapist on this enigmatic, and certainly unpopular group. I am sure if you know anything on internet culture you will know of what they have done, and what they are doing; for the rest of you, here is a handy little Wikipedia Link [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_(group)].

I personally find them excruciatingly hilarious, I mean, check out this:

That is not a wikipedia link...

We don't talk about their kind here.
I Don't like them, but some of their causes and exposes are good. Just not their methods.

Anyone who riles up the Church of Scientology into a frothing frenzy of stupid... moreso than normal... is fine by me

People here don't look kindly of that group.

But since I know very little of them I really don't care much about them.

I hope I don't get raged at for this, but I am anonymous.
If by anon you mean someone who hangs out on good old /b/ a lot.

It's been something like a year since I've ever associated myself with that group, I still visit 4chan every now and again, it can be funny sometime, but by and large I've gotten I've grown up and the whole troll'n thing stopped being funny a while ago.

I always liked the idea of 'humanity with the gloves off' though, even if it's not really what they're like.

Strangely enough, they represent a factor of the internet that I'm rather fond of. In the real world, its impossible to have a mask to hide your identity, mysteries like heroes and villains just don't work... reality has ruined the romance of mystery. On the internet though, mysterious groups like Anonymous can exist... I like it XD

Anonymous is you. He is me. He is your dad and your mom. He is everyone.
Because nobody is as cruel as everybody

I don't like the chans, but I do support what they're doing. They're not idiots. Well, at least the ones that are useful to the base point of Anon.

It's an amazing social experiment, capable of both acts of benelovence and malignity. This is because it is not a coherant group, but instead the sum of its members. No enforced direction, no structure, nothing.

As such this thread is meaningless. It is impossible to hold an informed opinion on their actions - because each individual member decides for itself what its actions will be. If their identities were known, you could identify individual groups and praise or damn them for their actions, but nobody at all knows what's really going on there, because there is nothing going on there.

I think it's a beautiful thing - in the same way that humanity is. That is all that it is - humanity free of censor.

Nobody is a member of Anonymous. It's more of a case of acting or discussing within Anonymous than being a "member".
