Curious thing,
The more I hear about Anon, the more I like them (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.290930-Rally-round-the-family-Anonymous-takes-down-Monsanto-site), but the more I hear about LulzSec, the more it seems they're not very nice (When Sony got hacked, it was Sony's fault. When everyone else gets hacked, it's the hacker's fault). By expressing these thoughts to a friend he simply said,
"Maybe [Anonymous] should go after lulsec then."

Anonymous: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/3350-Anonymous
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_%28group%29

LulzSec: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.290937-Lulzsec-help-the-NHS-and-apparently-take-down-a-Jihad-site
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LulzSec
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.290919-LulzSec-hacks-55-porn-sites-and-steals-admin-and-userdata-then-uses-them-to-sign-into-Facebook

On my own, digging into these groups isn't my thing; I'm more of your average PC user. By being one it can't be helped that coming across such information is commonplace. So here's my request for you escapists.

If you had to side with either Anonymous or LulzSec on their views of justice, we do it for free speech, and we do it for the lulz, respectively
(broad sum up, feel free to correct me) . . .

Who would you choose, and why?

Edit:
If I were to pitch a tangent, do you ever think Anon would ever attack Lulz, or vice-versa.

I went for LulzSec, for no reason other than...I'm not sure. I'm more knowledgeable about them I guess xD.
Cmon OP, you gotta say yourself if you're the one starting the thread!

I'd side with Anon because they sometimes do things for some sort of greater good be it freedom of speach or what not. I for one can't support because they do the hacks for the "Lulz" and I just can't like them for that.

Going with anon because at least when they hack something they'll usually do something funny or offensive to the website instead of stealing data.

My apologies >^.^< I suppose I'd go for Anon simply because I've heard of them longer and the people I speak with who support them praise them highly and in a believable fashion.

LulzSec on the other hand has attempted hacking companies I enjoy like Epic I hear. Who knows, they might even go after Valve, "for the lulz" and that would lose me right there. At least you know your line with Anon.

Anon, because if I met one of their members I wouldn't want to strangle them with their own entrails for taking down PSN and stealing credit card data. It's been said before and it'll be said again, but Anonymous do things for free speech, and because it's generally funny.

LulzSec seem like a lesser copy of Anon. Stealing gamers credit card data, its never cool.

I want a "both" option.

Although... last 2 months the number of hacks has skyrocketed. I think the hacks are starting to do more harm than good nowadays. But we will see how it all works out. I hope the cooperations are learning from this and start improving their security. Because if Sony gets hacked a second time on a scale as large as the first (PSN outage), I am definitely gonna blame Sony this time.

Why on earth would you compare the 2?
Anonymous and Lulzsec are completely different...
I'd have to side with Anonymous because their goals are actually serious. Lulzsec is either doing it for teh lulz or to show people that corporations security suck. Which one is more worthwhile?
Freedom of speech, Free flow of information (protecting the internet) and fighting 'corrupt' corporations
or:
For teh lulz with presumeably a 'cover' as 'security testers'

"If you were to side with only one..."
*One poll option is nether* Sure you didn't get hit in the head OP?

Anyway I would take side with Anonymous just because they seem to more of a good guy inside them then LulzSec.

No head injuries here, it's more or less perceived to me as, "Activists, Troll/Fodder, and the uninvolved." Not to start any controversy or make absurd comparisons but it could also be seen as Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. Idk, nothing ever has only one, two, or three sides. A voice is a voice and people have chosen neither.

Think of it this way: every medium of fiction has good guys, bad guys, and innocents.

While I'm more inclined to side with Anonymous, since they at least are supporting a cause (freedom of speech), hacking is still wrong regardless of how noble the intentions may be. I mean, what have they actually accomplished through their hacks, other than downed websites and services and subsequently large numbers of unhappy customers? Yeah, they support free speech, but there certainly are more effective ways to show support than to DDoS websites.

And LulzSec doesn't hack for any cause, just for the 'lulz'. 'Nuf said about them.

I'd like to stay out of said war so that none of my private information mysteriously ends up posted for all to steal on the World Wide Web . . . so neither.

Anon puts effort towards free speech no matter the method or cost, which is certaintly a noble cause. However, lulzsec hasnt actually done anything BAD-worst being hacking some porn sites and attacting facebook profiles. Hell, they helped out the NHS rather than attacking it, which shows that they at least have some common sense (I don't know about anyone else here, but if a loved one of mine was to die due to a hacker causing miscommunication in my local hospitals database, id be pissed at them. Especially if they thought it was "for teh lulz")

Also frappe, I assumed that anon was used as a scapegoat for the attacks, unless I missed some info where they outright admitted it. But to be fair, thats kinda on a tangent to the topic.

I Anonymous and LulzSec fought it out, they'd destroy each other in an event similar to Koom Valley.

The world could finally be at peace...

I picked neither, but I guess Anonymous is slightly preferable.
It's like eating dry horse poop, which is really just grass compacted into a patty, or fresh dog poop, which has God-knows-what in it.

I know I've said this before, but hell I'll say it again: I am not on either side.

Anonymous, as far as it goes, I would be doing mostly live and let live. Messing with Sony was kind of stupid because it led to the current weakening of their own group that threatens to tear them apart, but that's no longer important to me because they faded into the background for the most part.

The Lulzies, I fucking hate, because they are just a bunch of idiot frat boys who think they own the place (the place being the internet, of course). They moon government and military organizations, effectively, and that is incredibly dumb. More to the point, they maliciously attack things without even a point, just hurting sadistically. They have no value and they will be caught. What kind of nut would side with that? (Don't even start with me about the donations. That's re-fucking-diculous.)

So, I'll say again again: No, I am not on either of their sides. One is largely unimportant to me and the other can go to hell. Jack is on Jack's side, where all the cool people are.
