Lulzsec is doing something the security industry has been trying to tell companies for the past 30 years. and thats to update and secure your customers shit. thats the only good thing they are doing and they are doing it in a completly fucked up manner by publicly giving out what they stole.
They could publicly post enough that the company cannot deny that the hack happened and that they screwed the pooch but not give out customer infromation.
Forcing companies to addreess and take security seriously is a huge issue. companies flat out ignore the very people they hire to test that security. they ignore because it costs money. and recently companies are legaly required to disclose security breaches. that was not always so and current legislation is still too weak. Sony took over a week to disclose the the dataloss. they took over a week to verify that there was a dataloss event. Sony should have stated full on the second they discovered that they were hacked. current laws do not force them to do so, and they are only required to tell you when it is absolutly confirmed inhouse. This is wrong because during the time the hack happened and them cconfirming it everyones personal information could be sitting there in the hands of criminals free and clear to do with as they please rather than day 1 customers react and change passwords, or start checking CC transactions.
That is probably the only thing LulZsec is doing that is good, but doing it in a way that is not good for the end user.
Anon... Protesters. they protest basic human right violations, they protest against countries that are taking away free speech. they do many other OP's that are not protest in nature such as organizing natural disaster relief efforts. they do not steal or make customers personal information public. They have a code of ethics and they realy do follow it. any anon that does not is not acting as an anon.
I side with Anon.
*edit.
I was a victim of CC stolen, and user and password. It wasnt through Sony and was before the current disclosure laws. Sony pissed me off for not disclosing on day 1. They were idiots for trying to protect an image rather than fucking protect customers. fuck you Sony! enjoy the 20 hacks you greedy shits. disclose day 1!
