I was wondering what sort of percentage of the Escapist did 3D modeling, and if so what kind, be it student work, employed doings or just as a hobby.
Feel free to post stuff like your latest work or interesting topics about such here.

I do it as a hobby nowadays, but when I was in high school I worked in 3-D modeling for my Dad, who is a Graphic Designer.

I think you should add Google SketchUp [http://sketchup.google.com/] to the poll; I'm sure I'm no the only one who uses it.

I just got done with a basic 3d modeling class that used Google Sketchup. But I have worked in Solidworks in High school. I made a basic engine, a chopper, dune buggy, tank, UFO, and a few planes. None of them were any good structurally, but I was proud of how they looked...

The only thing that's not mine in there is a car that is in the house's garage.

Sketchup looks somewhat similar in functionality to AutoCAD anywho.

I'm learning it now. And 3DS max bores the shit out of me. Give me Z brush or Mudbox anyday of the week.
I hate the ZBrush user interface and resent every time I am forced to use it :|

I've been using Blender for some time now, mostly for animation and as of recently been testing the waters with its game engine. I haven't done much modeling in 2.56 yet.

I do all of my modeling in 3D. Clothes just don't hang all the well when I'm only rendered in two dimensions.

My latest (almost) finished work was a steampunk revolver made out of an old french pinfire (hence the long chambers, also good for firing the larger .38-55 grain rounds).

In addition to being a single-action it uses the gas from the bullet to turn the chamber and despence the spent cartridge (there's no picture of the ejection port, but it is where you'd load the ammo normaly.

I like my steampunk stuff to be justifiable and not just copper tubes soldered on to things.

I use 3DS Max. I only use it for modeling guns for Counter-Strike: Source so far. The guns' textures are so atrocious that I never post them on FPSBanana

I like Blender but I've only used it for about 6 months. I've heard mixed things about it (the low/non existent price tag is something I like). I could always make a switch because I'm not too entirely committed to it right now, and I've been planning on really trying to devote myself to it.

I am taking classes on animation right now and we just started in Maya. I learned on Blender and like it more though...

Well, I'm studying 3D, and at the moment we are using Maya. But, I've only had 4 lessons, so I'm not that great. We've so far done a Dolphin, and currently, I'm moddeling (out of my own choosing) a Beretta 92fs. Handgun.

I use Google Sketchup for my uni course, I make 3D models of cities and buildings. It is adequate enough, but I don't know if I would use it professionally, or get a better programme graphics wise, as screen shots are often quite pixelly, especially when the images are large. We've had two tutorials on it, but I learned the most just using the programme.

I use blender 3D a lot. I do it as an hobby really, have a few vids up on Youtube of a few of my models. Old stuff though.

A lot of this work is old though. Got a project going on at the moment that should be good though :D.
