Out of those three, I typically choose the human.

Otherwise I would want to be a rat person.

I like that humans are standard as it gives me an option if I find other races uninteresting.

But I'd totally love to see other races beyond elves and dwarves. Anthros of some sort are always nice, as are races that are typically 'monster' races - orcs, kobolds, gnolls, trolls, etc. And weird races like Shardminds, Warforged, etc. are also awesome.

The Charr in Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2 are a great example of a neat non-human and non-standard race. They not only are cat-goat-things, but they don't default to "Nature!" because they're animalistic. Fuck no, Charr love fire like fish love water. Not only that, they take that fire and forge a bad ass industrial society with muskets and engines of war. That's awesome.

Or what would be really awesome, a RPG where you play as a dragon and like any proper dragon you sleep a long time between each chapter. So long that each chapter represents a different "age" of humanity (stone age, classic, mediaeval, renaissance and modern) and each age changing slightly depending on your choices in the previous one.
Again, been done, there was a D&D 2nd Edition campaign with this idea.
I was not talking about a PnP rpg where by definition everything is possible anyway.

So normally I would just say no, not really. I have not grown tired of human/elf/dwarf choices, though I wish lizard races were more frequent.

Then there was this...

I give you
Shardmind

Dragonborn

And
Kenku

Those are awesome. Though I think at least human or elf (skinny nature humans) should always be a choice, since a lot of people like to play as something similar to what they are.
When did Kenku become a player race? i fought them last saturday! Is it from the mags or something?
Sorry for the late reply.
The MM2 has it's starts listed so it can be used for a PC.
As well as the DnD Compendium

Nah, I'm fine.

Besides, the only RPG I've really played is Oblivion, and it had anthro-animalic races.

TES has a good selection of intresting races. But HED gets a bit dull after awhile.

Egh. It shouldn't really matter what races you can play if the game is enough fun.

Of course, in practice, it matters to role-players, so I guess I enjoy a bit of variety.

A Zerg character in an RPG would kick ass.
A zerg in Dragon Age: Origins. Behold the mindF***ery

here's some fun races:
Norn [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/norn/]
Sylvari [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/sylvari/]
Charr [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/charr/]
and Asura [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/asura/].

Non-playable (yet) but still a nifty race, the Tengu [http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tengu].

Norn can do this:

They are similar in some ways to other "traditional" races (if you feel like being obtuse), but each is unique.
I was just about to say that!
I love Guild Wars 2 already...

I like some of the new MMO's ideas for races that are coming out. Take for instance Tera:

http://www.tera-online.com/about_tera/char/aman.php

They added some familiar faces, plus a couple that are completely new. I like the Baraka, personally. I think they are half-giant or something like that.

EQ2 has a ridiculous choice for races, which I liked. Lots for everyone.
They make the bad guys looks so badass, I can't help but root for them.

Even though they never win, :(

I think I saw an Ewok in that vid. :p

Still looks epic.

more variety doesn't hurt, though its a good way not to mess the lore up to much

Your poll is ridiculous, it allows two points of view, neither of which are mine.

Please just put:
Yes
No
Other.

OT: No, I'm not tired of them, I like games with them, and I like games with out them - after all, it's only defining a character.

Im not tired of them, but i can think of a dozen other races id like to play.
Its just alot more work. You have to do a different voice ((or several)), different model ((or several)), different backstory ((or several)) and different racial history ((or several)).

If it delays the game by several more months, i dont think its worth it. Besides, i always end up in full plate armor. Dont think race would be make much of a differance then xD

Absolutely sick of them.

That was one of the things that I didn't like about Dragon Age. You can play as a vanilla human, a slightly smaller human or a short stocky human. I don't even know why they bothered.

Come to think of it, I wish fantasy games would generally ease up on ripping off Tolkien altogether. Imagine if every sci-fi game imitated Star Wars to that degree. Nothing but wookies, ewoks and lightsabers. It would suck. But nobody seems to mind every fantasy game in existence being an inferior rehash of Middle Earth.

No. Because almost every time a game tries to use anything aside from those 3 standard races, you just end up with one of those races under a different name. It doesn't matter if their skin is green or if they're animal-human hybrids. If they live in the forest, worship nature, and act like smug pricks, they are just fucking elves.

That's not to say I am opposed to truly new races in fantasy games. In fact, I'd welcome that sort of thing. But we don't have to do away with the 3 standards to get those races, especially when the end result of that is usually just them getting a reskin.
The lores of Morrowind say otherwise. Although yes, everything is a biped, all the races have their own traits and histories.

I myself dont mind if there's not alot of selection as I always always play a dwarf when possible.

ORK ORK ORK!!! These are the three ones I play as :)
Well people want to be the characters they play as so they of course make the ones you can think yourself as. These have been around for a long time and making new ones can be kind of a risk so I understand why they stick to the same ones. It would be nice if someone would experiment but I think there are too many risks.
