First thread to made completly frommy itouch. Just throwing that out there.

Anyway, my friends and I have often debated on whether we'd prefer to live in an apocalyptic wasteland a la Fallout or our current world. Here we have technology and luxury, bur much is expected of us in school and at work. However, in a wasteland the goal of life is not to get a good job but to simply survive.

I would prefer the wasteland because without the addicting distractions of technology I could do many things like learn more instruments And basically live a whole new lifestyle. What would you choose?

By the way in the wasteland you will start with the knowledge, immuinity and skills you have now. So if your a good rifle shot now you'll be one in the wasteland.

Quick question, do we have to survive the appocalypse to live in it, or can we be born there?

Damn it, I thought this would be about Apocalypse Now!

I would live in the present as Apocalypses aren't as easy to get through as video games lead you to believe. Chances are you'll end up as a farmer and till the soil for the rest of you're life. You could join a community and try to go for a job like security or mayor or something but what makes you think that you'll be the only one trying to do that and what makes you think that you're best for the job. You could try to become a scavenger but not only would that be insanely hard living but without proper knowledge you'll end up dead pretty soon.

Sure, you could live a whole new lifestyle, but that lifestyle will be incredibly hard with the only real reward being a young death.

Apocalypse, this world gets too boring sometimes and it's hard to find a purpose. Especially in college as a music student.

Having two goals in life, surviving and killing Super mutants/zombies/whatever really sounds like a good time in a really naive way

No, you just wake up one morning and the world is fucked back to a less complex level of society.

Apocalypse. I'm a pretty good shot with a gun, I'm reasonable smart, I can stand up to most people in a fist fight, and I'm pretty much a loner anyway. No bullshit with having to go through college and work as a corporate cog. Survival of the fittest. All those rich people who I hate oh so much would die because they couldn't live a day without all of their precious... things

I'm more likely to die a horrible death in a post apocalyptic world. So yeah, now is a good place for me.

Yeah me too, but I guess a lawless savage world was being portrayed in that movie. Also yeah without years of pre-requisite knowledge for survival about 95% of mankind would probably die in an apocolyptic wasteland, especially us westerners.

I would have to, you know, SURVIVE in the wasteland, but world nowadays is a bit too repetitive. I'd rather live in a shiny space-faring future (Mirror's Edge' style in architecture, space travel and aliens! Woooo!)

Also, clever thread title.

In the wasteland no one would be sitting around learning instruments. In fact, most of us would probably be killed and eaten by bigger and stronger people within a year, and they would have the same happen to them within another year. There wouldn't be anyone like Moira Brown around to be sexy sell you supplies to stay alive as in Fallout 3- any supplies desired would be searched for and possibly died for.

I'd stay right were I am comfortably on the Escapist.

There would be no games in a post-apocalyptic world though, would there?

If I had the skills of my Fallout Character, I'd pick the wastes no questions asked. But as I stand now, I'd get my ass handed to me out there. Gonna stick with where I am.

All nerdiness aside, I don't think anyone would like to live in Post Apocalyptia, since they would survive 5 minutes before shitting their pants and dying when they encounter the first roach or something. Oh and NO! You won't find weapons everywhere!
