We only have a really old PC in our house so I was thinking of getting an alienware laptop but when I looked at the prices I had second thoughts.
So are they worth it?

No.

I don't know a lot about PCs and even I know that Alienware are stupidly overpriced.

I just, you know, don't really know why they're overpriced :D

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I would say no, but then again my friend has one and she really likes it, plus its a laptop, you are gonna end up spending more than you have to on one of those anyway since you can't build them yourself. You can get a good gaming one for like 1200.

You'd be buying the brand more then the performance. Just look up some good specs on any other laptop. If you don't absolutely need mobility: desktops tend to be cheaper and more performing.

No. Alienware is way more expensive than other brands just because of the name. I bought a really powerful desktop replacement from MSI for $2,000 or so, when an equally powerful Alienware desktop replacement would have cost around twice that.

No. I built my own computer and they are stupidly overpriced. Go with the Asus g series if you want a good gaming laptop, if not get a desktop.

everything is worth how much people are willing to pay for it.
but tbh, you can do cheaper than alienware, like others have said, you pay part for a brand-name.

its like buying apple products, you can get cheaper and better - but its apple. (or insert any other popular brand of anything)

so in short, you can get better laptops elsewhere. you can DEFINITELY get better and cheaper PC elsewhere. unless you want it for the looks (which i admit, they look cool) well, go ahead, but i recommend looking for other brands (they have cool looking laptops as well)

No. You can get much better gaming laptops for a much better price. Sager, for example, makes excellent laptops that are a much better deal.

Although I disagree with the notion that gaming laptops are never a good idea. Desktops are better for gaming, but if you're on a budget, it is cheaper to just buy one gaming laptop than a laptop and a gaming desktop. Plus, many gaming laptops have some advantages over non-gaming laptops, like good cooling.

Nope. Alienware knows it has the best gaming computers on the market, so they drive up the prices to whatever they want, knowing that their target audience will pay whatever they can.

If you were getting one because of its gaming capabilities, you may try out a cheaper alternative like Asus. They manufacture motherboards, primarily, so their chip sets generally please.

They are most definitely not worth it. The laptop I bought for college cost $1200 and it runs games just fine. Look into the Sony Viao S series. Great price, good userbility and very portable.

Nope, not worth the price at all. If you are getting a computer for the house and want to game on it I'd strongly suggest building your own desktop PC or finding someone that can build one for you. Even if you would much rather have a laptop you can still find something that will stand up to an Alienware laptop for half of what you'd pay for an Alienware laptop.

in a simple word, no. Alienware is a brand owned by dell and is now always over priced. if you want a gaming laptop there is other companies that proved better, less expensive products i.e. MSI, ASUS, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony etc.

If you need and only have option of buying a laptop then no I still wouldn't recommend Alienware. If you need a Gaming PC best option is to build one yourself and there are several instructional videos on youtube and other sites for this and other PC maintenance. You can also go to newegg for some prices and tomshardware for advice. If they are out of your region just find a website with similar pricing that caters to your region.

I know I am going off on a tangent here for other options but you can also buy the parts and pay someone to put it together for you or buy a pre made computer if you must and it would still be better price than Alienware. Then if you do need a laptop just buy a decent one that is good enough for playing oldish games(mine can play CoH on low settings with a 128mb dedicated memory graphics card[quite bad]) and get a cooling pad for it.

Also when looking into it do not buy more than 8gb of ram as your OS probably won't support it.

I will add to the chorus of "no"s here. No. Alienware used to be one of the best gaming PC companies, but they were bought out by Dell a few years back. Now, you pay the same price as before, but you get a terrible PC running Dell architecture for about 20% more than other brands. Also, many of these laptops are made at the Foxconn plant in China, where last year and the year before there were suicides apparently because the workers were over-worked under terrible conditions.

So, no, no, and no. I actually use a gaming laptop myself, in spite of the warnings from others. But I do agree that for gaming, get a desktop, then you can upgrade as necessary. I use my gaming Laptop for Graphic Design work on the go, which is sped up greatly by a graphics card, and it is a passable gaming PC, but I am always at a small disadvantage simply because it is a laptop.

No, they really aren't. If you are looking for an awesome gaming laptop for your money look at MSI, Asus, or Sager.

This site tends to have really good prices and is where I got my current gaming laptop.

No. Alienware used to be something, but now its just a very expensive brand name. Toshiba is bad too while we're at it.

I've been using a Gateway. It runs a little hot, and its a bit heavier than other laptops, but it works great. However, it's not really a full-on gaming system.

I've heard great things about Asus as well (or was it Acer? I don't remember).

No. Alienware are waaaay overpriced. Gaming laptops in general are more expensive than what they're worth. You could buy a cheap laptop and a gaming PC for the price of a "good" Alienware, which means you have something portable for Internet and other basic tasks you might carry out infront of the TV, and a gaming PC for gaming and any heavy duty tasks you might want to perform.

Hell, my phone can do so much now that I don't even really need a laptop, I'd be fine with just a desktop and could use my phone for basic browsing and Twitter/ Facebook. And I can even play GTA 3 on it.
