Oh baseless mind-fuckery, how I hate you.

Is it so hard to provide some examples to support your views?
Evidently yes.

Edit:
Also, try and avoid making such broad generalisations.
Have you met "most" leftists and "most" conservatives?

No.
Of course you haven't, so don't try and typify all of them in two paragraphs.

Some seem to think that enacting strict enough weapons laws will lead to a peaceful, weaponless society
That's about the opposite of what's true. There's less crime if everyone is dangerous. Just look at Texas. It has the lowest crime rate in the U.S. and why? Because everyone is packing. Your not going to fuck with people if you know there's a good chance they'll shoot you.
Or perhaps because Texas is not densely populated on the whole and is a large state, so if people arn't close to one another they can't shoot each other.

I suppose yes in the sense that they want to make the world a better place. Just like most people I suppose.

I'd prefer calling myself a progressive realist. I have ideals but I do know most of them will never come true anyway. You can and should however always try to improve the current situation as long as it is possible and feasible. As a government you might not be able to stop world poverty, but you can enable a lot of individuals both inside and outside your own country to lead a better lifestyle.
