Some games are just going for realistic attitudes to women. And as sad as it is, Metal Gear Solid for the large part, presents a realistic Japanese attitude to women. Just be thankful they didnt invoke rape into the storyline somewhere.

Have you seen the Men in video games?! Huge muscles, gruff voices, and enough testosterone to power Arnold Schwarzenegger for 12 days. I think its safe to say that video games are imaginary worlds where everyone is almost perfect and big titted women only date the equally endowed men.
yup, excluding saints2 where my character was modeled after me, which means hes kinda thick

i don't see how breast physics are derogatory, if you have seen a women with breasts bounce around her breasts will bounce with her, and if your talking about"not all women have awesome breasts" in games every man is macho super tough guy and every girl looks like a super model. because when i play a game i would rather see sexy women then un-sexy women, wouldn't you?

edit; games are more derogatory to men '_'

Not sure, but women in theory are in competition with these videogame characters based on sexiness because they fell ugly and unatractive to men, but its another mystery im sure well never figure out.

This representation then begs the question, are video games derogatory?
That's kind of an overly generalized question to ask. It's like saying 'Are TV shows derogatory? Are movies offensive?" The subject is so broad that you can't just pass one answer and say 'yes, videogames are derogatory,' or 'no, they are not.' It's all a matter of which game you have in mind.

Now, if you're talking about the kinds of games people would call derogatory, you have to consider the demographic the game is aimed at. Most mainstream games shoot for the 18-25 white male american, the kind of person who is both most likely to still be interested in videogames, and has the kind of spare money to buy them with; or at least that's what I remember from my most recent learnings of gaming marketing.

With that in mind, I'm pretty sure most games don't MEAN to be derogatory towards women, even if they come off that way. It's just a lot of people involved in the making don't usually think it's going anywhere but their core demographic.

I don't think games are any more derogatory nowadays to women than they are to men. Both genders are displayed in a mostly cartoonish way. In video games, we're all caricatures of our real-life counterparts. Add to that that women in games are usually submissive or "supercilious badass action babes" and men are either socially inept or mindless jocks and soldiers/marines/whatever.

In the early days of the last generation the gaming world was rocked by the brand new introduction of "Boob physics". This allowed for a drastic change in female representation in games. Women began appearing as large breasted insanely attractive sex dolls. This representation then begs the question, are video games derogatory? Some might say no its simple fantasy and others might state that it gives an unrealistic view of women.
Grimm... what the hell? Your whole argument in this thread is based on the assumption that women are always depicted as large breasted sex objects in contemporary games. They are either "fantasy" and not derogatory or "unrealistic" and therefore derogatory.

What about Samus, depicted as an attractive blonde... occasionally, more often depicted as an armoured sci-fi monolith? What about Beyond Good & Evil's Jade, who's breast size and loose fitting jeans contradict your entire premise? What about Rule of Rose in which sexuality is examined as an uncomfortable and twisted element in a world in which the "sexiest" character is a thirteen year old girl in a 1930's rag dress? What about Tomb Raider in which the idea of the big boobed super model character is actually more defined by her profession in anthropology.

And the whole "boob-physics" thing as a defining point in which women became "objectified" in games is total garbage. If I were to take the side you suggest you are on, I would argue this started with Atari 2600's porn games not the advent of 3D graphics (that suggestion is just sloppy)

On top of putting a little more thought and creativity into your threads, you might want to try using the search button.

just... yoish.
