Recently, I've been noticing a trend of what appears to be posts more focused on getting attention then actual discussion value. Purposefully posting things that they know people will tell them is incorrect and start arguments. Is it just me or does everyone else think the same? Also not trying to be ironic here though I wouldn't blame you if you thought so.

Yeah, quite a few subjects been popping up like that. For example those feminism ones we had a ton of recently... Those went to shit pretty quick.

Well it is the internet.
True, but it's also the escapist. Having been around here for quite some time, it doesn't seem normal.

Well, I haven't really noticed that a lot, care to give any example(without mentioning names, of course)? Is it something factual wrong or is it because they have a different opinion or what exactly are we talking about here? If what you're saying is indeed true, I'd wager a bet that it's because of the badges and/or post count.

The only thing I've really noticed are the many repeats threads, but then again, that has prevalent for a long time, so it's not really anything new. When it comes to that, I just don't post, since my opinion of something isn't so important, that it has to be reiterated several times. Also, post count should matter less than the actual content of a post.

We are all being trolled. By Sauron the lord of shadow. Even now I feel his gaze upon this thread. I sense the presence of his blamhammer. I see him with my waking WEBCAM!!

Then again you could be overreacting. This whole topic is ripe for Trolling. Rise above it and act like it don't exist. Before you can say Terry Pratchet they'll be gone.

Well, the point of this thread was to see if anyone has a similar feeling so examples wouldn't serve much purpose really, but if you like I could direct you to a few threads via PM if your so inclined. Sometimes it's factually wrong, but mostly it's differing opinions but for some I've seen it just seems to be they are only different so they can start arguments, possibly for post count and badges like you said or for the sake of trolling. That may not be the case for all I've seen but it could be possible.

Good one :)

I was just curious really, it doesn't bother me that much. My usual defense for it is ignoring but I wondered if I was the only one to notice or not.

I've only frequented the actual forums here for a few months, but in the past few weeks I've seen the same. Everyday there seems to be a topic with either an obvious answer, that they're questioning, with all the logic of a complete douche. Or else a topic with no good answer, like abortion, etc, that they know has no answer going in.

I've been here for a year now, and to be honest, I think the amount of trolling has gone down overall over the months.

Make of that what you will, but that's all I have to say on the matter.

Recently? Recently. I'd say a good 70% of threads on here are trolling, flame-baiting or "I can mention Chuck Norris, Cthulu and bacon on the internet too!" The latter is probably the worst, as it creates the most headstrong mythology ever emboldened by me-too people with no regard for the factuality of what they're saying. I've been here for over 2 years, and this has always, always been true. I've found threads by people who used Kevin Smith as their avatar and claimed that James Cameron and Nintendo never had an original thought.

Recently.

And I guess I'd go with a qualified "no," since so many of us take part in it just by entering these threads. Trolling is dropping in where one isn't wanted and saying some stupid shit to enable one's false sense of superiority. Simply being dumb or picking a fight does not, in itself, constitute trolling.

I shall make nothing of it. I see you've discovered a new way to masturbate.

Or a topic like "The last X that you X in game X just X'd your mom." Seriously, I know that there are 12 year olds on here, but there aren't that many 12 year olds on here. And of course there's the threads where someone demands that all responders be thoughtful, creative and engaging, when they aren't even attempting to do so themselves, and the threads asking strangers on the internet to do their homework for them...

...so I'm in a bitchy mood today, huh?

You're on The Escapist.
90% of the time, you're gonna be labelled a troll here, no matter what the fuck you post.

Not trolled but the quality of threads has been low. I haven't been posting much because of it tbh. All the topics I see are ones I don't want to touch with a bargepole.
