Is the world finally done mourning Michael Jackson? I still hear about it every now and then. Non-stop specials on him on VH1 and MTV. People defending him religiously. I hope it has finally died down. It's really annoying how the entire world gave him shit for supposedly molesting children, and then he dies and the world turns around and says "Sorry, my bad".

That part is what irks me the most, that someone dying automatically releases him from any bad thing he has done. It's not that I'm flaming on MJ himself, it's just that I really don't understand how what I described has happened.

Explain to me if you can.

I never started mourning. It was just a 'meh'.
I was watching Kevin & Perry Go Large at the time on Film Four I flicked over to Sky/BBC News during the adverts to see if it had been confirmed since I thought it had been big news on the day but according to all the media reporters it was more than a day since they never shut up about him for the next 7 odd monthes.

man, some people aren't even done mourning elvis.

seriously it would take (at least) 3 generations of non-cultural upbringing to make people stop care.

As long as the Daily Express gets published it will always seen like Jackson and Princess Diana are still alive and kickin'

My friends and I were cracking MJ jokes as soon as we heard he died (which was 2 hours after he did). I certainly hope the world is done. Correction: I hope the world is done telling me about it. I couldn't care less what they do in their free time. Funny story, the weeks following his death I got so sick of hearing about him I decided to watch a movie rather than watch TV which was full of MJ 24/7. I chose Men in Black 2 which is the only movie I own (out of ~50) with a Micheal Jackson cameo. God. Dammit.

I'm uneducated on the subject but wasn't there some recent news/noise about the doctor that had a hand in his death? That might be a reasonable issue - although I could be making it up, I don't care about the topic too much.

I still have my Michael Jackson Moonwalker sega game waiting to fund my kids' college fund.

People make a big deal out of music that affects their life in some way, it'll take decades for him to really fade from popular consciousness. I still think Billy Mays was the greater loss for our world.

With this thread, it proves we're apparently not.

But people will have their specials and such right about now because it's the one year anniversary.

And he was the biggest musical death since Lennon. But the biggest loss this year was Dio in my opinion though.

The sad thing is people made fun of the 9/11 deaths within week after the happening (you know who you are) and since I'm not American, I still found it disrespectful of human life.

Yet somehow, people up-to-now made a big deal if you as much make a joke that MJ is molesting Cherubs now...

Stupid internet...

Well I hope its over.
Forget the man but not his music.

That's what I always say, well not really. But I said it then.

I believe the Chasers embodied that "glorification after death" bit well right here

But over here in Australia it's certainly died down a fair bit.

I think that it's time to move on. He was good, but we can't get hung up on the past. I wasn't a big fan so I could be wrong. It's just what I think.

I honestly have noticed that people stopped talking about it after this is it came out and a few weeks after it left theatres. The only talk of micheal jackson I hear invovles comments on youtube in response to yuzoboy's sonic micheal jackson remixes.

Yeah, I'm getting kinda sick of it. I'm a BIG MJ fan, but there's just too much about him now. All I want to do is relax and listen to his music, BUT NO! I get called downstairs to watch TV every 5 mins because there showing his top 40 music vids, FOR THE 5TH TIME TODAY!

I've just chosen "yes" fingers crossed that his ghost won't haunt me for this one.
I hate it when the market/media capitalizes on someones death. But then again, I'm a bit of a hypocrite I guess because I would still like to see stuff of Hendrix and Cobian for example.

Unless you're from the right age group, this'll be hard to understand, but MJ in his prime was pretty much bigger than Jesus, the Beatles, Elvis and Hendrix all rolled into one. Obviously, he wasn't looked upon anywhere near as fondly during the last decade or so, but to the truly hardcore fans, none of the controversy mattered. Michael was, and always would be, the King, and his death was a huge, shocking blow.

I doubt they'll ever stop mourning. Like, you can still occasionally catch ads for commemorative Elvis anniversary plates or whatever, right? It's going to be like that, but multiplied a million.

Personally, I'm a great lover of MJ's music. I think he was an extremely talented singer and songwriter, as well as a truly gifted dancer and all-around entertainer. I have to admit, though, that he was a very peculiar individual, and his stranger traits definitely took a turn for the worse towards the end. I'll miss him (especially since "This is It" looked like it was going to be his big comeback), but I'm not mourning forever. Honestly, I'm just glad the whole "did he do it or didn't he" mess is done with.
