Closet Nerd is someone who loves video games, but the average person would never guess your so passionate about them. You don't look, act or seem like the typical gamer. Don't really talk about them too much in person, and have other hobbies and interests that don't really add up to what a typical person expects a gamer to do. I am a lot like this and wondered who else is. Does this fit you?

EDIT* to make things more clear I know a lot of gamers who, you look and can just tell they are, and as soon as they meet you the first thing out of there mouths is which games are good and bad, what console they own etc.

It's completely obvious.
Most likely due to my grades and skin complexion.

I'm a closet nerd to the point of playing D&D with a fridge full of red bull and about 10 pizzas on standby with 4 of my friends :O...but nobody will ever know about our sessions which we refer to as 'just guys hanging out' to our girlfriends/parents...which you would think would incorporate perhaps a few buds and a movie but no...D&D alllll night ^^

Fits me like a glove. Except with one chosen "gamer-mate" with whom I can go on raving about games forever, I rarely ever talk about games or gaming.

I'm not pale, not obese and I like(and am good at) sports.

I am more passionate about football(soccer for you fuckers in the states) than gaming anyway, so people may see me as a soccer-nerd. Whatever, honestly :)

Also, people tend to think gamers to be very shy and introverted, I'm the exact opposite. No-one that doesn't know me would ever dream of me being a nerd. Everyone that knows me knows I'm a gamer though, since I don't attempt to hide the fact that I spend more time with my xbox and computer than with any person or pet.
Except the last part, this describes me very well.

I actually chuckled when I read about the gamer-mate because I have one who fits the bill perfectly; asocial, strange, nihilistic in nature, and all those tags you can fit on a gamer. Yet, he's probably my best mate and we're really having a blast, talking about games and girls etc. It's awesome, really.

I guess I'm a closet nerd in that case. I don't specifically look a lot like a nerd, and I've only got one T-shirt that actually features a game's name - in thai.

Closet sociopath?

And no, I'm not a closet nerd. I'm an open nerd, but I embrace it without becoming your stereotype.

I couldn't say for sure. I know some who have assumed that I was a gamer, and others who have been surprised by it. I don't pretend I am not geeky though, I thought that was what the whole "closet" thing referred to...attributes that you hide.

Nobody can tell until I open my mouth ^-^

From then on it's pretty obvious I spend my days reading sci-fi and absorbing tons of seemingly useless information.

I try to hide it from any of my friends or potential girlfriends, nothing kills a night like a girl stumbling over my 360 controler and going "Oh a gamer are we?" and then she grabs her coat... and pants.... and walks out the door.....
I say I won't be a gamer for long, but I know its all lies, or at least I hope it isn't lies

I don't look it but I sure do talk about it. Even to people who have no idea what I'm talking about, I just ramble on. To be honest, I'm a fashion junkie. A trait that isn't often associated with gamers. I'm making a corset as I type this. Though gaming and sci-fi is my sustainance. I can't live without it. My two hobbies bleed into eachother sometimes though. I really want to make a Star Wars ball gown. If only I could find the fabric...

They either think I am a gamer, a hippie or a drug dealer. Depends where I am and what I am wearing.

I've been mistaken for a drug dealer, someone was trying to buy off me while I was working cash at my university's store, and I don't even do drugs. ...Maybe in Ottawa Jew-fro means drug dealer. I don't know.

Anyway, I'm pretty upfront about being a gamer. I'm not uber-obsessed about it, I can talk about other crap, but if video games come up in class - let's say we're talking about censorship - I'm not afraid to use what I know in conversation. Mass Effect's sex scene controversy is a great talking point, and I can apply it to what I've learned in my course.

The cool thing about Communications Studies is it's a class that deals with the kind of crap I AM obsessed with. I thrive in those lectures.
