So, we all know , even though we don't like to admit it , but we will all die someday. Death is a natural part of life, some even go as far as to say that, without death life would have little meaning. But even though, death is inevitable , alot of people still fear it . Realistically , no one want's to die . But some people accept it , some people don't , and other just pretend it isn't an issue , and face it when the time comes.

So my question is : Are you afraid of death ? why or why not ?

now i am not asking , if you are afraid of dying in a specific manner , because let's face it , some ways or worst than other , when it comes to death . I'm pretty sure everyone would prefer to die in their sleep , than suffer in any form or manner. But that isn't what i'm asking . What is asking is , are you afraid of dying.

I will admit I am. I imagine it as just sleeping forever without dreaming, just darkness forever never to wake up again. Every time I think about it I cringe and just try to take my mind off of it.

well i'm afraid of it now, there is so much i want to do still, and i'm THIS close to achieveing sweet jesus freedom from college and making big bucks so i'd like to have at least a few years to live an above average financial lifestyle

plus as sappy as this sounds, i do love my family and would like to be there for them, as i'm the oldest of all my cousins/brothers, they look up to me alot.

but as soon as all thats said and done and i'm becoming a semi old fart, sure why not? it's kind of exciting knowing i'm approaching the point that peoples entire lives debate over (afterlife/soul/god/etc...)

Of death itself... no. No point in being afraid of something that you can't escape. It will just eat you up.

Of dying painfully/slowly... not really. I don't believe that death is something that can ever be peaceful or dignified. Because, well, it's death.

Of dying alone... yes.

Of dying feeling disappointed with the life I've led... yes.

Of dying as a result of something embarrassing/fail worthy... yes. When I die, I want to be moving in excess of 150mph (preferably while upside down and on fire) while I do it, and my gravestone will read "So f*cking worth it."

Death i'm not afraid of but i'll admit to having a slight concern about the actual dying part.

I smoke so cancer is a chance. It looks like a painful way to go so can't say i'm all to thrilled about going that way.

Drowning is another. People say it's like falling asleep but the whole "panic for oxygen" thing makes me question that.

If I can go in my sleep or, if it has to painful, as quickly as possible then i'll be okay.

But on the whole, the whole being dead thing doesn't scare me.

That doesn't mean I want to die before I get accused of being "emo" i'm quite happy with my life but I know i'll go one day and it's not something i'm scared about.

The most horrible thought i've got is I want to go before my wife does. If she goes first it's gonna crush me thats the only thing i'm scared about death wise.

For such a binary issue, it's actually given to a wider spectrum of responses than a simple yes / no.

I've already lived a very rich life for one my age, but I'd still like to see and do a lot more. I don't recall life being a problem before I was born, so I doubt I'll be too fussed about being DEAD, itself. I'd like my death to be as close as possible to an EVENT rather than a PROCESS. Just bite the bullet and get all that rot over with.

I'm happy now and want to live it up as long as I have my mind and health... Plus... I have WORK.TO.DO.

No. Maintaining a fear for an enevitability is absurd.

The idea of growing useless or dying peacefully discusts me to no end, so I would want to die violently, preferably fighting a large animal.

I am not joking.

I do not fear death, but right now, I fear the shame that I would feel at leaving so many unresolved matters behind me were I to die.

I'm just afraid of dying a painful death, like falling into a wood chipper or something.

Death, as I see it, is eternal oblivion, and I'm not afraid of it. I've always thought that I'd die happy if people will remember me for at least a thousand years.

I am a little bit afraid which I think is only natural, but not enough to let the thought take over my life.

Also I am a bit worried about the way I'm going to die, personally I would prefer a peaceful one at an old age.

As for drowning, a few years back I experienced this on a beach and even though I was saved I can honestly tell you (I'm not trying to scare you or anyone else here) but it's was one of the most terrifying moments in my entire life. I never went back in the ocean again.

The way people face death shows you how they lived their life. In that case, I hope to approach death with no regrets, happy about the way my life turned out.

As others have pointed out as well, it's an inevitability, so why fear it? You might as well fear the sun rising in the morning.

"The best cure for the fear of death is to reflect that life has a beginning as well as an end. There was a time when we were not: this gives us no concern ? why then should it trouble us that a time will come when we shall cease to be." this quote makes me feel better i except it but not now, im too young to die!

Death in and of itself does not scare me. Dying does however, there are numerous ways to die and most of them seem painful and long. i would like to die peacefully if possible.

I've got to admit, Terry Pratchetts' views on Death have helped me a lot with my view of it. His version of death, that there is a desert of black sand and what you find on the far side is what you expect to find, is one of the best I've heard, above any philosophy or religion. As an aside, Pratchett says he sometimes gets letters from terminally ill fans, saying they hope that the Grim Reaper they meet will be like the one he tells of in his novels. He says these letters always cause him to stop and stare at the wall for long periods of time. I know that this is technically unconnected, but it's always stuck with me, and I like making sure it's passed on.

I personally plan to die of old age, having lived a life both long and full, which I don't see many people putting togetherr nowadays, as though the only worthy death is to go in a blaze of glory, but to fight death until the very end, just because this life is all we know of for certain and I want to be able to enjoy and experience it for as long as I can before the end.

Yes especially the idea of dying before doing the things I most want to do.

If I was to die soon I wouldn't have done much living and that scares me.

I don't really know. Like that Super Priest from Deadman Wonderland said "Death itself is Salvation".

Then again there are plenty of reasons to be alive as well. To me death means you can escape the things that are bothering you, so i will only feel regret on my deathbed if i'm not hurt or saddened in any way. I suppose that's why some people who are really sick say they want to die... and also why some elderly who lose their husband/wife die shortly after their beloved - they simply don't wish to live anymore.

This is really dark and depressing right now so i'll round up now.

Living the good life, married and healthy=Don't wanna die.
Sick and alone=Well never fucking mind then!
