Not really. I'm used to dying over and over. Plus, some games it's the highest difficulty level where they really shine.

Less scared, more annoyed. It was a pain getting through MW2 campaign on veteran. Also, Alpah Protocol, didnt help that the game had horrific bugs.

It happens a lot to me. I play the game, at least on the first play through, on the easiest difficulty. But I generally just prefer easier games. If I liked the game I'll go through again on a higher difficulty.

Depends on the game. If it's my kind of game (RPG, FPS, GTA-like games etc.) I'll just crank it up to the max to make it last longer and give me a good challenge - few exceptions of course, like DA: O, though I avoided the higher difficulty there cause the last such game I played was NWN where I didn't remember myself kicking enough arse so went with a Normal. If it's a strategy game or something that I'm not sure will suit me, I'll go with a Normal to start with, then crank up the difficulty if I feel like it later.

Some games have an obviously ridiculous level system. Think back to Doom and anything else recent with that kind of -we don't want you to live- system above normal. But otherwise anytime I start up a fps I start on the highest difficulty.

I also hate difficulty settings that come with friendly fire, like Dragon Age and Left 4 Dead's realism mode. I don't think I should be punished because the AI moronically got in my way.

I'm not afraid, per se, of higher difficulty settings. I don't use them, but that's more because I'm more interested in the experience of the game rather than the challenge.

I play on normal first because that's how the game is supposed to be played. Then I move on to higher difficulties if a game deserves to be played that much.

I usually play the hardest difficulty on my first run, it makes the games last longer, which is nice because I tend to burn through them on normal. However if a game is proving to be stupidly hard, I'll probably set it down to normal.

I always try them out, and if the normal mode is too easy, I start the hard mode...

The only time I failed to play on the highest difficulty setting was Ninja Gaiden 2...
