I'm kinda hardcore,
I never go online, but I like to beat the crap out of games. I'm the kinda guy who will do a minimalist run on master ninja in ninja gaiden black just to see if it can be done (it can). People tell me that i'm hardcore because I beat everything, but I only play on weekends.

I don't consider myself to be a hardcore gamer in general. When I get into a game, I can get pretty obsessed, but those kind of big releases are getting few and far between. Bioshock was the last game I played religiously, and ESIV: Oblivion before that. That's a pretty wide gap. I don't play online at all, and you won't catch me waiting in line for 16 hours at the local Gamestop for the latest release of a console or blockbuster game.

I'd only consider myself a hardcore gamer when it comes to one particular series: Resident Evil. I'm a nut for just about anything Resident Evil-related. I've played and beaten every console RE game released in the States multiple times (including the dreadful Gun Survivor games), and I own at least 1 version of nearly everything bearing the RE name (the most would be 3 different versions for RE1 on PS1; original big box version, Director's Cut, and the Dual Shock re-release). I payed close to $100 for an unopened copy of the N64 version of RE2, despite the fact that I didn't have a working N64 at the time (and still don't). I picked up RE: Deadly Silence the day it was released... and I still don't have a DS. I even have a Resident Evil tattoo, with more planned. I'm not joking.

I would consider myself s "hardcore gamer" because I...

1) Pre-Order games, despite the fact that I don't have to.
2) Track down obscure older titles or Japanese Games with limited release runs.
3) Like my games to have complexity and depth

Mostly it's because I treat gaming as a major hobby, invest myself in Gaming News and occasionally have involved discussions about various goings on within the industry.

I'm no noob, but I'm not uber pro, either.

I'm mediumcore, I guess.
Thats me.
But if I do ever bother to reinstall my Halo Custom Edition, and you meet me in a server, you're gonna get p4wn3dd lolulz. I've spent over 2 years of my life on that damned game.
I'm a hardcore Halo Custom Edition player.

I'm not sure what you mean by hardcore gamer but I would call myself a gaming enthusiast. I spend more then enough money on video games, I play them almost everyday, I stick up for games when arguments come up about video games being a negative impact on society, and I believe they are the most powerful form of art.

i wouldnt say that makes you a hardcore gamer. i think it really has more to do with just how much time you spend on a game and there is nothing wrong with wanting a game to have a good depth that is why some games are amazing in how deep they can be like oblivion i love that game and i dont normally enjoy that kind of game and there is nothing like the thrill of finding that one game that gives you a blast from the past(i have a few old sega saturn games)

as i said before i think people who are intrested in the politics of games (check out www.gamepolitics.com ) are more in the semi hardcore group.

i am with you on the games are art bit. games like half-life 2 (mostly ep.2) have moments that are more powerful (and tear jerking) than in any other form of media.

I think this thread needs a definition of 'hardcore gamer'. I'm not a competitive gamer, nor do I play on the harder difficulties, but I can easily sink a couple hundred hours into a good RPG.
the reason i did not give my own defination of a hardcore gamer is because i want to know what peoples own definition of a hardcore gamer.

p.s sorry for posting three times in a row. i keep spoting things that i want to replie to and i dont want to have on big long post

Plus I have very little time to play games what with collage and all.
Yeah, all that cutting and pasting can take up a lot of time. :p (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I'm midcore. I spend enough time playing and reading about games to qualify as hardcore, and I play a lot of them online (tho I'll usually choose the "social match" rather than the "ranked match" where there's a choice), but to me hardcore is an attitude. Hardcore gamers are the ones who abuse their online teammates when they're not playing well enough. Hardcore gamers are furious when they don't win. Hardcore gamers Take It Seriously. Single-player gamers can be hardcore if they need to get every achievement or beat every high score or do wikkid speedruns.

My girlfriend is a hardcore gamer in Viva Pinata and Feeding Frenzy and a casual gamer in everything else.

I'm very casual, except where it comes to Guitar Hero. Currently I sink in the region of 3 hours a day into it (I have my finals in a month or it'd be a lot more) as I try lamely to drag my ability up to expert-level. I've been known to spend an hour practicing a single section before, just to improve my chances of passing a song. In almost every other game, though, I'm at best average.

I would call myself a hardcore gamer because I actually prefer to spend my weekends inside playing Video Games rather then going out drinking and partying...

that would (in my view) put you in the hardcore group unless you are like under 16.

also i am goin to start another thread that is about whether playing "casual" games like viva pinata and games like feeding frenzy can make you a hardcore gamer

You misunderstand when I say I look for hard to find games, I hunt with dedication, driving all over the city to remote little videostores and looking through their used bins game by game hoping to find that rare gem that I missed on initial release. (I've found EVERY game I've ever looked for using this tactic btw, at a reasonable price too).

Well i actually consider myself hardcore simply because i spend so MUCH time gaming. If i'm not doing something with buddies or drinking i play videogames. Most of my use of the internet is game related, and while i suck at FPS i pretty good at strategy.

For me a hardcore gamer is a gamer that spend over 6 hours a day playing videogames!

I have a girlfriend so the days/nights I spend seeing her I will probably spend around 3-4 hours at night playing on CoD4 for the 360 online. However when i'm not seeing her, my friends, skating or w/e I can easily spend 8+ hours a day on CoD4. I actually can't wait for WAR to come out ... I think my relationship might suffer :p

One of my ex-gf's finished me because I never went out anywhere with her due to WoW but i've learned from my mistakes and I don't play that god forsaken game anymore. I would of considered my self hard-core then but not nowadays because I don't choose games over my mates.

I'd say Yes, since I seek out old games from long dead consoles on ebay to play/add to my collection. That and my mouse has a small groove in it the shape of my index finger...

No, at least not anymore. I used to be a somewhat hardcore CSS gamer, but then I realized that both the game and a lot of the players outright suck.
Most of the time now when I play games I play a few mins of Diablo 2 or Grim Fandango.
I'd play CoD4 as well, but my graphics card is somewhat broken and doesn't like newer games.

i see what you mean now but i still think that that is ok, some peopel do the same kind of thing with almost all things that you can buy.
it also seems strange that people can view things like hunting down games as if it is a taboo thing to do where as people will trample over each other for the newest bit of fashion.
(sorry i got a bit off topic)
