dont get y so many ppl either love or hate it its an ok game, and a few of my friends have tried getting me into it but it just doesnt appeal to me like a good fps, rts, or racer

oh but it does steal peoples lives

Good game if you liked the story of Warcraft, I play for the stories, getting better loot and such isn't so high on my list, but I like finding the overall storylines and such that are contained in it.

WoW is not exactly a bad game. It does teach you group dynamics and can (if you play it and not buy your character) teach you trial/error. Raid leaders get to coordinate things and learn how to lead. I see it as a learning tool if you don't get sucked in and play 8 hours a day (like my roommates... and that's only if they've got things to do with the other 16 hours, otherwise it's 20 hrs of WoW, 4 hours of sleep...). Plus, it can be fun, given you don't encounter too many douche bags who spoil the game for you (like my experience... twice).

I find it a boring game, only played it like 6-7 hours and quit. Though it sure is the made a mock of in jokes and such. Besid the point, Blizzard cocked up Warcraft with this game, and I hope to hell they won't cock up StarCraft as well.

I think it's hilarious when people blame WoW for "stealing their lives." The game didn't steal your life, you never had one. Or, if you did have one, maybe a McDonald's manager or a CVS stock person, you willingly gave it away along with 15 bucks a month. The game did nothing wrong, so stop bitching about not having a life...it's your fault.

EVE beats all I'm afraid WOW is just more grinding gameplay that you pay for, EVE is many times better.

From what i understand eve is only interesting for the high end politics, and is deathly boring in actual gameplay.
Meanwhile WoW has bugger all politics as guilds can do very little permeanant harm to each other, but is a rather more amusing game to play (I did actually play the free trial for that one, but got a bit bored towards the end).

The gameplay is pretty gripping if you have a more durable attention span than the average MMORPG gamer who just wants to hit the same monster for a few hours. WOW certainly has some strong points but EVE is just a deeper and more intelligent game even if jumping several systems in sequence for ten minutes is mind numbingly tedious

Ok, sorry sirrah i think it is a good fun MMO that due to its sheer popularity has spiralled out of all control in terms of public opinion.

It's so galling to see WoW players insulted as human trash when I know full well there's in an MMO rape simulator out there!

I will have to go with "it can be tedious, but can be fun overall". It is a nice game to play when I'm bored with First Person shooters such as Fortress Forever and Team Fortress Two as well as the other games I have.

Sometimes I'll sign on to Live and see that some of my friends haven't been on their 360 for 5 or 6 days. Then I'll give 'em a call and find out that they've been playing WoW all week, because "I've got to get my 5th character up to level 80." Sigh.

Oh, and then there are the stories of parents who got arrested for neglecting their children because they were playing too much WoW...

WoW is not a bad game, if it was than it wouldn't have half the players it has now (or even half of that) I played it for the better part of three years with my friends (most who I actually have met)who still play it. While it was a bit tedious with the near constant grinding I have yet to find an MMO that functions differently, what really bugs me in WoW is that they took the decent storyline of Warcraft1-3 and ruined it. Oh and as it is with all addictions, if it becomes such a serious problem you have no one to blame but yourself.

I can't stress this enough.

It is my personal belief that Blizzard can all rot on the side of a dirt road. They're stuck so far up their own asses that they can't see without opening their mouths to congratulate themselves.

WoW can pull your social life so hard out of your ass that not even haemorrhoid cream will soothe you.

I nearly lost one of my best friends to this game. It was only after seeing the impact his obsession had on the people he interacted with (not much while he was in those dark times) that he gave up.
I think the final straw that broke the hold over him was when he heard I was writing a song about it on Guitar Hero.

On other notes... £102 a year (last time I checked)?
If you want to get rid of your money quicker, go to the bathroom and stick it all up your ass. It'd probably be more pleasurable than this game in any case.
