I don't mind the existence of WoW, except that it inspires other developers to make similarly boring and shitty games.

If it wasn't inspiring them to do so, I would think WoW is just fine.

But it does, so yeah, I kind of do hate it. It's boring, it sucks, and developers are making boring ripoffs of it.

I just started this week and I have to say I'm really enjoying it even though grinding in RPG's bugs me to no end but I quite like the game. Still have yet to get the expansion paks though

Right I think WoW is a good game it's well designed, and really gives you the feel of being in an epic huge and varied world with good use of the interaction with other characters. It's well maintained with such a myriad of things to do and changeable quests and ways to adjust your character who wouldn't like it?

However I don't like the idea I find it so good as to probably become addicted and confine me to my room for days on end. Also it annoys me that even if I should develop the genius omniscient space brain necessary to break free of the cycle, that intelligence I posses would allow me to reason that to actually get my moneys worth I would be almost required to play it for the requisite 3 years. As opposed to having a more varied gaming experience elsewhere. But that is really an inherent problem with all MMOs that require you to pay a fee bar the original one.

Finally it annoys me that Blizzard as far as I am aware have managed to basically release two expansions that basically only added large areas of land, which while totally different to the original land, is still just more land with different themes. It would be like Valve re-releasing Portal with minor graphical improvements and an extra level that basically just repeated the same puzzles but changed the aesthetics.

OK that's not strictly true, and I know someone will crucify me for it but I'm allowed one senseless rant a year and that was it. But in the end this strategy works and has kept fans interested and Blizzard's pockets bulging, so full credit to them. But I can't help thinking, what will happen when either the world gets so much land Blizzard will have to call in top quality estate agents. Or their servers will blow up with the strain.

EVE beats all I'm afraid:D WOW is just more grinding gameplay that you pay for, EVE is many times better.
...No.

I played EVE, and I assure you, that game was unbelievably boring.
All I heard about was how mature people will love that game.
As soon as I entered the chat for the first time, it was all about emo boys having sex.
"How mature," I think to myself. "I'm so grateful to have gotten away from the WoW kids."

The whole point of the trial is to give you a taste of the game, to draw you into the game play.
To level up, I put skills in a queue...and...wait?
I...wait? For my skills to...level themselves up?
"Bwahaha!" I chortle to myself. "They can't be serious, right? I can actually go out and level these myself, right?"

WoW may be a tedious grind fest, but I found myself missing the combat system.
It sure beat the hell out of "Orbit. Fire. Wait. Repeat."

And if I remember correctly, you still have to pay just as much for EVE online.
Also, WoW gave the impression of a gigantic world for you to travel.
I lost that impression with EVE when I found out that all travelling was done by "Right click here. Select warp. Wait."
I admit, WoW's "fast travel" interface took a while to get you anywhere, but atleast it made sense. You actually had to find the correct people to do it. You can't just float anywhere and decide to "Go here now!".

I don't understand why people say that EVE is amazing. In all honesty...ehh...no. It wasn't.

Anyways, I'm pro-WoW. No game steals your life, it's not WoW's fault people choose to play it obsessively.

What I believe is a mix of the poll's options: I believe that WoW is a great game, that's just about undeniable. It is the epitome of a great MMO. It is fun and addicting. Blizzard did a great job with it.

However, just because it's good doesn't mean it isn't the most evil thing on the planet. Hitler was a genius but he was still evil. WoW destroys your life, sucks in your soul, and makes you dependent on its sweet nectar.

I would know. I (and most of my friends) experienced its addictiveness at one time or another. Thankfully, we managed to break away from it with the majority of our souls intact. Still, those were some good times...

I'm afraid I don't have the funds to play it atm (lost my job, paying for college) and need every penny I can get. But I did give it a try when my cousin was kind enough to let me play on his account for a few hours. It really is fun up in the higher levels... even though I didn't have a clue what I was doing.

All in all it was entertaining. I don't have enough time in it to give a better opinion so I went with "other".

I wouldn't recommend WoW like I wouldn't recommend any MMO unless you have no social life or work/studies to deal with.
I noticed it myself playing UO, I got really wrapped up in that virtual world, thinking about it even during work/school/whatever.
Also, paying for a game and then paying monthly in addition is just silly.

Never played it. Got bored with MMOs about 8-9 years back. So I have no strong opinions one way or another. I guess you could say I'm a neutral. But what makes a man turn neutral?
Hahaha. Great reference.

I never implied that you didn't pay a sub for EVE; the skill queue makes sense, I would rather have my skills level up while I'm at college as opposed to spending two hours killing the same monster to achieve it. If you had that sort of chat experience then you were no doubt playing with all the others who downloaded the trial for the hell of it, when you get into it you find players who are just as mature as yourself. I'm not saying that WOW is a bad game, just a little bit repetitive

Flytch, are you sure you re not pulling a prank here. Did you really pay a monthly fee so that your skills level up by themselves.

I've played WoW for a few years now, and I still really enjoy it. I think it's a great experience, with a good community (although that varies realm by realm) and there's a lot of fun to be had in it.

I find the idea that someone's social life can be consumed by a game like WoW quite silly, to be honest. I mean, it's a matter of control; I used to be a tad addicted, but upon stepping back and reflecting for a second I realised that I was overdoing it, and now I'm not - it's that simple.

I never understood the flak WoW got for being a timesink; isn't that why we play games in the first place? I mean, I certainly don't get anything really worthwhile out of headshotting people on Gears of War!

I think whether you like WoW just depends on whether a MMORPG is your kind of game; it annoys me to see others talking about how evil the game is and how it was spawned by the satanic ramblings of the High Priest in the Blizzard Money Empire. I mean, if you don't want to play it, then don't. But don't try to force others to not play it - if they can afford it, and they enjoy it, why the hell not?

I'm not sure "pro" and "anti" WoW is a good way of phrasing it. All you'll really get is people denouncing WoW as the devil's own handiwork and other people pointing out that the first people are wrong (correctly so).

Still, through some fortunate coincidence, one of the poll options does describe my position. To me, WoW is a game that has some problems being boring, but boredom takes time to build. In the few months at a time it takes me to reach that point, the game is seriously fun. I'm a sucker for both variety in character development and massive, explorable worlds, and WoW happens to have both.

WoW is, in many ways, the apex of the modern traditional MMO. It has its shortcomings, but makes up for them in so many other ways. People who call it a "grind" have never played a game with ACTUAL grinding.

Also, I got a job through WoW. Can't complain.

ALSO, the game is at its best now. I can understand preferring Vanilla WoW to BC - even WotLK, but objectively, it's just such a better game right now.

I have to disagree. Perhaps my memories are influenced by happier times with better people but I found WoW pre expansion to be immensely more amusing than TBC (can't speak for WotLK since I haven't played it). In fact the further back I go the happier I was. WoW was at it's best when the best gear you could acquire was from Molten Core, Onyxia and Blackwing Lair, probably because while the gear gave you an advantage it in no way gave you victory, exactly as intended.

Except... it DID give you victory. If you were a BWL raider, you would go into BGs and dominate everyone except the people who had the lack of life necessary to get the highest rank PvP gear. You raided, you did the soulcrushing PvP grind, or you were cannon fodder. And in raids, all Paladins were Holy, all Priests were Holy, all Druids were Resto (to Innervate the Priests), and your only tanks were Warriors. And the hardest part (pre-AQ40 and Naxx) was getting 40 people. That's it.

You might have found it more amusing, and I can certainly understand the nostalgia factor. But Vanilla WoW was waaaay worse than it is now. I've been doing the old-world quests for my Loremaster title, and jeez louise, the old quests are awful compared to the new stuff.
